So, according to CSN TE Carrier is out for the season. Carrier's knee injury thins out an already hampered tight end group | CSN Mid-Atlantic (http://www.csnmidatlantic.com/redskinsblog/report-derek-carrier-done-year-significant-knee-injury?p=ya5nbcs&ocid=yahoo)

This is a big blow, as he gave the offensive gurus at least some level of blocking and receiving combination. We know Reed is a beast as a receiving TE and a nightmare if they tell him to block someone. From most reports I've heard TE Hamm is more of a pass catching TE, and the fact he was inactive yesterday probably says he's not the answer.

My question is where do we get a blocking TE from. I wonder if there is any team's practice squad player that would be worth calling up and giving a 3 game shot tryout. Clearly it will be an open competition next year with so many season ending injuries to the group.

I looked at practice squad rosters, and there are several TE's on other teams PS, but I won't pretend to know their names or if they are worth signing...

Rough year for our TE's... But Reed deserves some huge props. He was in beast mode yesterday. Dare I say he's putting up Pro Bowl numbers.

Dare! Dare!

Seriously, he was huge yesterday, and the Bears knew that he would be given his history of torching them and they had no answer. We'll need to see more of that. I also hope we can stretch the field even a bit more with DJax to give him more room underneath (will depend on whether we can slow the Bills' pass rush). He's good after the catch, and if he has more than a second or two before contact, he can do even more damage.

Exactly. They have to get DY out there more.

Yeah not many TEs better than Reed in the NFC. This is probably the top 3.

Greg Olsen: 65 catches, 969 yards, 6 TDs
Ben Watson: 61 catches, 712 yards, 4 TDs
Jordan Reed: 67 catches, 694 yards, 7 TDs

Wouldn't be surprised if Jimmy Graham gets a nod on reputation, that's how dumb the process is.

And look at Jimmy Graham replacement...Ben Watson having a great year. "System TE" Jimmy Graham

Espn980 said they would bring TEs to look at tomorrow. I wonder if FD or CC could be back. That would be crazy. There are a bunch of tight ends on other teams practice squads. If one runs a similar system we ought to bring someone else in. DY doesn't provide the package flexibility a good blocking TE would

Yeah I think putting DY at TE would broadcast the run just as much as putting Compton there does.

If CC is healthy...lord I hate saying this...he's the best option. He can block and provides at least a modest threat of pass catching. I fear there is no one out there really otherwise. Plus he is the most familiar with the scheme at this point.
