Chico23231 11-24-2015, 12:18 PM ^ We just need better players. Build the offensive line.
"I got to the line, and I said to Randy White, 'Our coaches love you. We're going to run it over you again and again.' Randy wasn't very happy, but after three or four times, he didn't say a word."
-Jeff Bostic
"No. Fifty Gut."
-Russ Grimm, interrupting Theismann in the huddle with four minutes to play in the NFC Championship, in response to a Coach Gibbs playcall of "Spread Wide, Sixty Outside"
"Randy - it's coming at you."
-Russ Grimm to Randy White at the line of scrimmage a few seconds later
"Everyone in the huddle was laughing..."
-Don Warren in reference to running '50 Gut' nine times in a row directly at Randy White.
From a build perspective...I think we need to get a starting Center in the offseason and that's it. Maybe a depth Swing Tackle? Moses, Schreff, Silverblunt, Long/Luavo are fairly set.
What we need is a blocking TE in the worst way...essentially an extension of the oline.
kct1975 11-24-2015, 01:20 PM Yeah it is really puzzling how you can't find a way to get Darrell Young into the game. He was on his way to being one of the game's best fullbacks, in fact he might have been right about there under Shanahan. He was a beast at setting up blocks for Morris and was an underrated weapon in the passing game. Under Gruden, I sometimes forget he is even still on the roster.
IMO, a good coach finds a way to utilize the talent on the team over being 100% dead set in whatever kind of "scheme/offense" they want to implement.
I completely agree!
I hear Rick 'Doc' Walker frequently talking about the need to get D Young in the game, and he is absolutely right also.
over the mountain 11-24-2015, 02:23 PM Gruden/Mcvay had DY in for 19.8% of all our offensive snaps last year. That was 7th most for a FB in the NFL.
FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: Innovative Statistics, Intelligent Analysis | NFL SNAP COUNTS (http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/snapcounts)
Cooley said Callahan likes running plays w TEs and not FBs and that callahan has a say in each weeks game plan. Problem is both of our better blocking TEs got injured in the PS and Scot brought in a pass catching project in Carrier instead of a blocking TE.
How hard is it to find a blocking TE? there should be a bunch of fringe blocking TEs sitting at home waiting for their phone to ring. its basically the lowest level skill set outside of a long snapper.
Can you learn a playbook?
Do you know how to block?
You're hired!
This failure of the run game is on gruden, mcvay, callahan and scot imo. the solutions seem obvious. play DY and hire a blocking TE. see what happens. 14 yards total is a fucking joke. they have had 9 weeks to fix it or at least take a different approach. its swing gate comical at this point.

At this point, it really doesn't matter what Gruden's, McVay's, and Callahan's preference is, one or two back. They have two receiving TE and a badass FB.
Have to use what you have not what you want.
If McVay is really the next offensive wizard, he and Gruden and Callahan should be able to work a Pro-bowl caliber player into the game plan.
Inexcusable. Literally, just copy Seattle and Green Bay's FB plays if they can't come up with some on their own.

TOTALLY Agree!
Skinzman 11-24-2015, 10:52 PM D Young started as a RB in HS only to be moved to LB in college. Was signed as an undrafted FA as a LB here, only to be cut, resigned the next year, and moved to FB. Something tells me that playing him as a TE wouldnt be hard for him. Instead of lining him up in front of a RB, just line him up on either side of the tackles. He can clearly block better than anything else we line up there. Even though he isnt the ideal height as a pass receiver, he has shown he can do that also. If nothing else, decoys take up defenders to open space elsewhere.

Not a bad idea! [emoji106]

LOL
Sunday was bizzare. They came to play and big things were on the horizon when Culliver scored a god damned touchdown. Than boom. 14 point swing against an undefeated team on the road. You could just feel the buzz leave our sideline. I dont think they gave up necessarily. It was more of OK refs it's pretty clear you are going to make this impossible so just lets move on. This team will be all cylinders firing cone Sunday.

I realize thats a typo, but that sounds like some kind of futuristic weapon.
