If Hopkins can boom them into the end zone every time, I'll take him missing a 40+ FG every now and then.

I thought Amerson should have been the fall guy long before Kai, but it's good if the message is sent that the status quo of mediocrity is not good enough around here anymore.

I imagine Amerson is gone once Breeland is back and playing.

Personally I thought Hocker had a better camp last training camp and the team should have went with him. After all, they did draft him. Now the guy who Hocker beat out at the Saints is now hired to replaced Forbath. Think about that Mickey Mouse shit.

They may have had different goals (longer distance over accuracy or vice versa). And you know what Forbath brought so maybe you keep him but on a very short leash. Heck we were all glad when Gano left but Carolina has kept him for a while. Kickers move around, and good ones eventually find the right place.

field position matters, and our coverage teams are terrible, so we really need the other guys starting on the 20 every time, it'd eliminate half of our coverage problems.

Yep it is a lot easier to replace one kicker than 10 crappy coverage players.

Yup. And we should probably think about punting out of bounds. Seriously. We are just getting killed with kick coverage.

Accurate on the kicks he attempted. The trouble is 24-27 fails to measures the kicks he never attempted because Jay knew he didn't have the leg. Were there 3-5 FGs in the 50+ range that Jay just didn't try? It's hard to know, but I'd rather have a K that can get touchbacks and make my 2-minute offense's target the 37 yard line instead of the 30.

Sums it up nicely.

Metrics!

How many KO runbacks did we have yesterday? One?
At this time we (and we showed it yesterday) cannot risk a lot of returns of any kind.....

Not worth it. The yardage we give up on kickoffs is worth more to the other team in terms of expected points than the difference between 75% (assumed dingus off the street) and 80% (Kai) on FGs. Nevermind the FGs that Kai can't even attempt because he doesn't have the leg.

Great post. It's simple math for GM SM.

It was nice having that "automatic" feeling from 45 in... but from a numbers perspective this move makes perfect sense.

While I liked that Forbath was money under 40 yards, the fact he was so iffy 40+ was unnerving. Also, short kickoffs. Damn, aren't we almost kicking from mid-field at this point? Gotta at least make it to the back of the endzone.
