DynamiteRave 09-13-2015, 09:20 PM Good: Line play both sides of the ball, Alfmo, general toughness shown by team, JG's commitment to the run.
Bad: DB's still getting burned, JG's commitment to the run.
Ugly: Special Teams, penalties.
I have zero hopes in the special teams players. I can't figure out if it's coaching or personnel. All I know is, they've been terrible for years.
skinsfan69 09-13-2015, 09:22 PM I don't think Scot is going anywhere anytime soon and, In all honesty, I think he has more power than we realize. Snyder has to notice by now that he doesn't know how to run an NFL team. He also HAS to have noticed the unanimous head-nod he got from the entire league on his hiring of McCloughan. If he were to can his "best signing to date" he'd ruin his reputation for life, if it hasn't been already. I fully believe Snyder has given up and turned the keys over to Scot.
THANK GOD
I'm with Punch when he said the question now is how long will Jay be here. Which I think will be the full tenure of his contract.
The team showed improvement today and i'll be damned if i've seen a Redskins team play more physical than they have this year in a LONG time. It's a pleasant surprise to see this team playing with pride for once, sticking up for each other and even getting into fights for one another.
We're building, and so far it's working. But the process WILL take some time.
This...
JoeRedskin 09-13-2015, 09:25 PM This is a good post and I agree with all points, but do you think Snyder gives Scot that long?
He keeps making moves like he did this off-season, yes. This team will be better than last year's team. Their record may not be much better, but they punched Miami in the nose and hung in there on both sides of the ball.
As for the play calling, yeah, here and there I had some issues but mainly like JG's commitment to the run. We can hope that this continues as we, hopefully, cut down on penalties.
Dumb mistakes and bad ST plays. Hopefully, correctable.
BAFGA 09-13-2015, 09:26 PM I thought it was a little heartbreaking the way it ended. I hadn't felt like that about a Redskins loss in a while; mainly because I've been checked out on this team for a while. I want Cousins to do well. I really do. I just hear a bunch of people on the Post game show bashing him.

I cannot take anyone seriously who trashes Cousins for this one. He looked really good out there for someone who had only started a handful of games and who last season, when he did start, threw a bevy of interceptions.
The first interception sucked because Grimes read him all the way, but the second interception was 50/50 as Garcon did a pretty poor job of going up and catching/breaking up the pass. He didn't turn into a turnover machine. That by itself is a plus.
Roberts was invisible until the 3rd/4th quarter... Outside of Reed and Garcon, KC really had no one to throw to.
Give that guy more than one or two weapons to throw to (and a coach who knows how to call a competitive game) and the Fins would've been blown out.
I don't get the play calling criticism.
What should have been called differently when?
I thought Gruden (or McVay and/or Callahan however it was) and Kirk checking out of plays at the line, did a great job limiting their pass rush and putting us in manageable situations.
I don't know what you're supposed to call when you're looking at 1st and 20 almost all the way through the third.
Bottom line is that when our own mistakes through penalties didn't put us in a down and distance disadvantage we moved the ball.
Like some other posters in this thread have noted, conservative play calling wasn't unexpected and was warranted with Kirk's reaction to throwing picks last year. I don't have any problem with the way the game was called.
They started keying run int he second half and when we weren't in a hole, Kirk moved the ball through the air.
For the first time in a long time, we had a chance to win against a good team in the last 2 minutes of the game.
In the gameday thread somebody noted the clock could have been managed better at the end of the 2nd half to take our possession past the 2 minute warning. This is a legit criticism.
A lot of generalizations about bad play calling and Gruden not seeming like a head coach in this thread with no real specifics.
Well stated.
Chico23231 09-13-2015, 09:51 PM In regards to the play calls, 2 stood out. The decision to not go for it on 4 and one b4 the missed field goal and the Kirk bad int where we ran 4 wide up against our end zone on 3rd and 18. I thought the back to back runs on third and longs was ok, but if ur gonna do that then take a shot down the field on like a 1st down when pass the 50 yard line...keep the defense a little more off balanced
skinsfaninok 09-13-2015, 10:00 PM O line was great today
D line very good
Cousins average
Morris great
Reed good
Overall team I'd say C+
This is a good post and I agree with all points, but do you think Snyder gives Scot that long?
Why do you think he's on a short leash?
He's one of the best talent evaluators in the biz, it was a great move to get him here. Gruden has something to prove, McCloughan on the other hand has a resume that gives him serious clout.
Skinzman 09-13-2015, 10:12 PM There was more than just a couple of plays that made no sense. We ran the ball down there throat in that first drive. Then he tries to pass on a first down and its an 8 yard sack. Then he just gives up on the drive in the next two plays for the FG. The next drive we move the ball, but on 3rd and 3, he tries a power run off tackle with Thompson. I dont criticize the run call, what I criticize is a power run with Thompson when we have Alfred and Jones. Get Thompson outside or run a draw with him. I dont really fault him for going for that second FG.
We get that crazy fumble that we gain possession of in Miami territory. We get a weird drop back pass to the FB where Young had to break a tackle just to get back to the line of scrimmage followed by a WR screen with no one blocking. Just throw it to the WR at the line of scrimmage while he is covered. There were others as well, just those are the ones that stick out to me. There were times we were moving the ball and he went away from what was working and it stalled drives.
