Interesting reading these tweets from a retired pro-soccer player about the Dr. that cleared RGIII. No wonder this dude stepped down.

‏@alecko11
I have just read that the neurologist involved in the RG3 concussion fiasco is Dr. Kurtzke..

‏@alecko11
I cannot tell you how much pent up anger I have towards this man, as he is the same doc who nearly caused me brain damage and maybe worse..

‏@alecko11
10 years ago when I suffered a Grade 3 concussion that took me a year to recover from, Dr. Kurtzke suggested to "just keep taking Tylenol".

@alecko11
The fact that this quack still works w/ high profiled athletes is A JOKE. This man put my life at risk and is a name I will never forget.

@alecko11
He cleared me to play just days after. So I began practicing w/ headaches + what felt like a 5 lb weight in my head.

@alecko11
When I explained that taking painkillers and continuing to play w/ bad symptoms didn't seem smart, he asked me who the doctor was...

@alecko11
I've never had a doctor be so condescending while spewing BS. But I wanted to play, and he told me I was fine to play. So I played...

@alecko11
After practice that week my headaches + pressure in my head got so bad, I swerved behind the wheel + had to pull over. I knew I wasn't OK..

‏@alecko11
Anyone that has followed me on social media knows I HATE talking about my struggle w/ this. But reading this man's name just hit a nerve...

‏@alecko11
Not true... When I finally saw a new neurologist he immediately shut me down indefinitely based on my symptoms.

Sounds like the first Neurologist is a F**king quack!

I can't understand how he is he was still working with pro athletes or with anyone.

Sounds like he wants to get out before people start to figure it out and ruin his practice as well.. If he's that bad at his job, I can't imagine that we won't start hearing more stories by other patients and athletes..

Wasn't he an nfl employee?...could be wrong. At least a consultant?

This is the NFL...

The NFL questionnaire to hire a Neurologist is "If a player dies of head trauma, are you willing to blame the death on an ingrown toenail?". If they answer yes, they are hired.

If I read the article this morning correctly, yes, he was an employee of the NFL and NFLPA, and was assigned to the Redskins.

What I was pondering, was if the guy is such a quack, why in the heck was he e even hired by the NFL or NFLPA?

I think the ability to reach a predetermined outcome is a prerequisite of being hired by the NFL..

It's stupid to dismiss a neurologists expertise based on one persons rant on twitter. People get very upset when they get sick and post crazy things -- and the very best doctors can't magically fix everything. His profile (http://www.neurologycenteroffairfax.com/p_rnk.html) says he's a neurologist trained at Georgetown & Duke, was a Chief Resident, President of the Virginia Neurologic Society, and is a co-chairman for an advisory committee for Medicare. That's a *stellar* resume and I'm disappointed and embarrassed to see the NFL / ESPN smear this guy's reputation.

I wouldn't blame him for getting out of a contract w NFL. Too much publicity. I'd bet Griffin is just one patient he sees in a busy practice and has led to front-page news stories on ESPN. Too much hassle for not much benefit for him.

Well this article seems to tell the real story...

- - - Although Kirk Cousinswas named Washington's starting quarterback earlier this week, Redskins owner Daniel Snyder and president Bruce Allen want to keep Griffin despite the financial risk associated with retaining the former Heisman Trophy winner, a source told ESPN.- - -
