Does anyone know the percentage league wide number of practice squad players that actually go on to regular contracts?

the same year or eventually before they end their career? I don't really have numbers for either, just curious what you're looking for.

At any point. So lets say over the past 10 years each team has 8 slots so that's 8 players *32 teams * 10 years or 2560 practice squad spots. How many of those, or what percentage, have been called up to any teams active roster?

btw, it doesn't look like we claimed anyone off waivers. most teams took 1 player, tampa took 5. so our roster/squad is probably set for week 1 now. obviously breeland will be back week 2 and RG3 may or may not be a redskin by then. either way someone is losing there job here pretty soon.

NFL Practice Squad 2015: Rules, Eligibility, Salary, Size, and more - Cincy Jungle (http://www.cincyjungle.com/2015/9/4/9231277/nfl-practice-squad-2015-rules-eligibility-salary-size)

well, first, there can be 10 players on the PS in 2014/2015, you can take 2 players that have accrued seasons now and most other players can be on the PS for 3 years now vs 2 a few years ago - assuming the article is correct.

as for conversion, i'm looking, but it's not super easy to find. i guess I can check on the redskins, but the teams swap out PS players every week, so it's hard to track (those 10 spots may end up having 20 different people fill them over a season). also sometimes players get taken from a practice squad so another team can use them for their playbook for 1 week and ditch them afterwards... i don't know that that should actually count as making it (it doesn't happen often but i remember NE doing it to a bronco's DE or LB and maybe NYG doing it once a few years back).

2012 - tom compton (OT) - going to be a big part of 2015

2013 (8) - will compton - 1 tackle in 2013, 60 tackles in 2014
- xavier nixon - indy took him from us - 4 games, 1 start in both 2013 and 2014 (for indy)
- chase minnefield (did some stuff in 2014)

2014 (we had 8) - philip thomas, signed active on nov 1, had 27 tackles
- chris thompson - obviously has value
- chase minnefield - 7 game appearances 4 tackles
- robert thomas (DL) - signed to the active roster for 1 day, then back to PS

others did nothing

so that's the last 3-4 years and only looking at what they did here, but the % is much higher than i would have thought to play in real games and contribute.

i'd call is 4/24 for those 3 years, so 16% from the world's smallest and possibly not at all representative sample size. (also these were from the aug 31/sep 1 PS roster list, i didn't bother trying to look up in season transactions, but if you check kffl etc during the year, there are a LOT)

Thanks. I appreciate you digging in like that. My initial thinking was less than 5percent so that is more than I expected. Still I think it holds that by most practice squad players aren't going to make or break a team's roster.

well, ryan clark was on NY's practice squad for 10+ weeks in 2002, lemar marshall was a PS player (ARI/PHI) that ended up starting 2-3 years here as a pretty good player.

obviously PS players are lower hit rates than high draft picks,, since they're (usually) UDFA's.

I don't see how anyone would not believe if RG3 stays a Redskin this year it isn't 100% Snyder's doing. Did everyone forget Gruden publicly throwing Robert under the bus last year? I figured Robert would be gone then. I would think the only thing he could do to change Jay's opinion of him is to light it up in 2015, and we know he hasn't done that. There is no upside to having RG3 on the team, anyone who has watched him on the sideline of the Jax game can
see he has mentally checked out. The circus around him isn't worth tolerating for a back up QB, especially for one who doesn't look like a team first guy anymore.
