Hey guys/gals(?) need some suggestions for good spots in and around New England (specifically upstate New York, maybe southern Vermont and Western Massasschusetts)...Looking for camping suggestions, cool towns/cities, sites to see around those parts. It will be around mid October so the leaves should be turning. Just gotta couple days before hanging in Connecticut with Fam.

Right now im thinking the Finger Lakes area before bouncing over to Mass and then down the Connecticutt.

Any help would be grand

For New York I'd suggest going up into the Adirondacks towards Saranac Lake or Lake Placid.
Then take one of the many ferrys across Lake Champlain to Vermont.

Finger Lakes in the fall is really nice, definitely hit the wineries.

Howe Caverns is worth a look, and you've got Cooperstown right there, Ommegang Brewery is a must stop too. You could do all 3 in one day easy.

Albany is pretty ho-hum but the state museum is pretty decent and there are some quality places to eat/drink. Let me know and I can give you some recommendations.

If you had more time I'd say hit up Saratoga and I'll show you around.

Don't be surprised to see snow in October or at least a heavy frost . I go up every year to the Berkshires of Mass .peak foliage season is just around Columbus day weekend and places have been booked since April .The finger lakes and Burlington are gorgeous and you can work your way down rt 7 thru VT and Manchester, Bennington into northern Mass and into Williams you could stop by Mt Greylock the highest point in Mass and part of the Appalachian trail and Pittsfield ,Lenox and Stockbridge .There are two Norman Rockwell Museums one in Arlington VT (his first home) and the main one in Stockbridge his final home .You might all so want to check out the Yankee candle company Flagship store in S.Deerfield Mass and the Vermont Country store which you and you wife will go crazy in but let me warn you now if you go Columbus Day Weekend it will be packed no matter where you are .

I grew up in Newport, RI. Every year around fall time the old people would come through on tours. They were called leaf peepers.

good stuff here...no wife and none of the gf are into camping aka "my time". Right now im trying to talk a college bud up from jersey to meet me..if not, solo isnt an issue.

Thanks for all the info so far.

My real concern is tent camping, I dont think it will be an issue. But when start talking about under 40 degrees, I consider that cold. I really dont think it will snow.

Breweries are important, the 2 I have my mind set on are gonna be too far to travel..upper Vermont. Matty has mentioned one, what about any others word of mouf in central NY or western Mass, Connect...?
