FRPLG 08-15-2015, 08:54 AM Truly concerned about our kickoffs. STs need help and one of the biggest ways we can help them is by limiting returns. Forbath simply doesn't have a good enough leg for the job.
More returns means more coverage which means more balls out beyond the 20 (and further) as well as more injuries.
htownskinfan 08-15-2015, 08:55 AM To me Griff looked the same, same short passes as last yr.As someone else posted, wheres the medium range passes that are over 20 yards in the air that Kirk seems to complete effortlessly?
Losing Paul is a killer,do the Jets have any tightends that are any good? I'd trade Griff to the Jets if they did.
This is yr 4 for Griff,we shouldnt be looking for improvement like we are like he's a rookie,we should be well past that point.I still think at this point in his career he's Vince Young Jr.Once he stinks it up again this yr he'll be out of football pretty soon, maybe he'll hang on as a backup like Vick.
Having said that,I would like nothing better to have VY2 make me eat my words,I truly hope I am wrong but I dont see it.

Sigh, if Garcon hangs on to that ball we're probably having a different conversation right now.

1000% spot on. Special teams are always just a fuckin disaster. Gibbs legacy of top special teams in the league just tarnished by these inept coaches and front office.

Your probably right,if he takes it in for a td VY2 is probably done for the day,but that didnt happen and we got more of a sample size from Griff,I for one was not impressed.Even the deep ball to Garcon was thrown to the wrong shoulder but he was so frickin wide open he was able to adjust to the ball being on the other side.

Maybe, maybe not. I mean, the drop was all Garcon. Hit him in the hands, simple as that. Was it a great throw? Nope ... but, RGIII threw the ball to a spot where it HIT GARCON IN BOTH HANDS. A pass gets to a spot where the receiver can get two hands on it is a must catch, even when the throw is not perfect.
However, even if PG catches it, while it improves RGIII's stat line, you still say RGIII's play was just what Keim and others were reporting -- "improved but inconsistent." He still missed some reads, he still was inconsistent with his footwork, and he still was not nearly as decisive with the ball as KC. On the other hand, he made some really good reads, made a couple good timing throws, and showed improved footwork. Further, even without the Garcon catch, and as I noted somewhere, PG saw the safety's reaction and adjusted his route during the play & RGIII saw the same thing and made the same reaction and anticipated Garcon's adjustment correctly. In preseason, catch or no catch, a QB reading and reacting to the D on the fly and in the same way is a very good thing. Bottom line, with or without the catch, RGIII looked improved but far from a finished product.
On the other hand, KC looked smooth, sharp and decisive against 2nd & 3rd stringers (He's a four year QB, he damn well better look good!). When that is juxtaposed against RGIII's work-in-progress night, the comparisons are inevitable.
I really, really, want to see RGIII get a lot more reps in the next preseason game. He is progressing. To continue, he needs to play and get reps against defenses with which he's unfamiliar. We know what KC can do and the things he needs to improve, cutting down INT's when the pressure's on, is not something reps in preseason fixes. On the other hand, RGIII getting comfortable with his fundamentals & reads against unfamiliar D's and in situations more closely approximating game speed is something preseason game reps can fix.
In preseason, a lot of fans look at the stat lines and make judgments based on them. To that extent your right - 5 of 8, 100 yds and a TD looks a lot better than 4-8 for 35 yards, no TD's. Particularly when compared to KC's stat line. For anyone who breaks it all down through the preseason lens, however, I just don't think Garcon's drop changes the underlying conversation.

He threw the ball away from the safety which was the right thing to do, Garçon had plenty of time to adjust. Had he led him down the field over his right shoulder it could have been a contested throw.

Well you might be right about that, hard to tell.Going back and watching the replays reminded me of the hits Griffin took,in 2 series the guy took a pounding,he's not going to last long like that.

According to Robert, Keim and some others, both Robert and Garcon saw the safety was closing on the inside of the route. In response Robert threw out towards the sidelines (on the other side of Garcon) to try and give a better margin of safety to catch the ball. Garcon just failed to put the ball away before hitting the jets.
As Coach said, you won't see that very often out of PG......
