CRedskinsRule 07-21-2016, 11:51 PM Well I guess we will agree to disagree. HTTR Sent from my S6 Edge JoeRedskin 07-22-2016, 12:11 AM A spike is not a trend. And sorry, the numbers show we are safer now than 4 or 8 years ago. We're not on the brink of collapse like Trump wants you to think. In the 18 months of the FBI's most recent statistical compilation ( 1/14 - 6/15) the murder rate is up: ~10% in cities with over 1,000,000 population. ~12% in cities between 500K - 999K ~8% in cities of 250K-499K ~17% in cities of less than 10K but you're probably right, I am certain the last year has reversed that trend. Deadliest year in Baltimore history ends with 344 homicides - Baltimore Sun (http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/baltimore-city/bs-md-ci-deadliest-year-20160101-story.html) ... or, then again, maybe not. Baltimore is currently at 164 murders - which is on pace to surpass 300 by the end of the year. In all of 2014, the number was 211. Baltimore Homicides - baltimoresun.com (http://data.baltimoresun.com/news/police/homicides/index.php?show_results=UPDATE+MAP&range=2016&district=all&zipcode=All&cause=all&age=all&gender=all&race=all&article=all) CRedskinsRule 07-22-2016, 03:02 AM A spike is not a trend. And sorry, the numbers show we are safer now than 4 or 8 years ago. We're not on the brink of collapse like Trump wants you to think. So if we take your premise that we are safer and combine that with stats from your same report that shows gun sales have gone up by more than half I imagine that means you are not in favor of stricter gun laws? I mean its a safer world and more people are legally purchasing and carrying guns so we should be good right? Sent from my S6 Edge CRedskinsRule 07-22-2016, 03:16 AM No. I don't like the dismissal of the deaths of THOUSANDS of inner city Americans by couching numbers in am aggregate that masks the reality of our cities. The spike is even noted in your link. Sent from my S6 Edge I will add that I guess if the democratic party's argument is "hey its ok cuz only 350 of you in Baltimore have to die this year so stop your bellyaching " Well doesn't seem like a winning argument to me but go ahead and use it . I tend to think we ought to be striving for better and that EVERY American ought not to have a problem acknowledging the fact that thousands of inner city lives are lost across this country each year and we have to work together to reduce and try to end the violence. So back to the initial statement, in my opinion, Its not fear mongering to say inner city lives matter equally to those in suburbia and rural America. Its just the truth. Sorry if you don't believe it. But the pockets of violence remain mostly in liberal dominated cities of Philly, Baltimore, Detroit, Cleveland, Chicago with a history of dem policies and poverty pimps within the communities and local governments. Billions of tax dollars have been squandered. That's why the gun control argument has zero validity...we aren't a crime ridden country, we are just a country who constantly over sensationalize specific events like mass shootings. It's not the availability of guns, buts it's the over coverage of the event. Sorry if you don't believe it. Sent from my S6 Edge Not sure how we got this far down the rabbit hole. I was just tossing out the point his speech was filled with a lot of fear mongering, which it was and plenty of news outlets are making the same point this morning. And I refuted the fact that we aren't safer now than we were 4 or 8 years ago, sorry but the overall numbers support that. Violent crime has been on the decline since 91 and an occasional uptick does not mean we're in a death spiral. I certainly never discounted the fact violence is a major issue in some places or said that everything is fine and dandy. But again, big picture violent crime has been tending down for quite some time. Trump painted a very dark picture last night and as usual used a very broad brush. He's tapped into people's fears very well... fear of crime, terrorism, immigrants, etc. And of course he has all the answers to fix it. Sadly there are a lot of small minded people out there eating this up hook line and sinker. Chico23231 07-22-2016, 09:43 AM fear mongering and bleak outlook usually doesn't win elections. The Dems will jump all over this and exploit it. I think there is strong advantage to having the 2nd convention. I think generally people in the country are not happy with where the country is going but Trump isn't giving them a vision for an alternative. Certainly nobody in the western world. To many things blowing up... Check that.....hmmmmm, maybe like in Syria? THEY might feel safer? All their top shelf terrorists are probably committed in other parts of the world...blowing them up? Right? Or...maybe they're just to damned tired to blow up Syria from having to blow up the rest of the world? I would not step foot in South America, central America, Africa, Middle East, most parts of Asia, Russia, Ex Soviet bloc and even some parts of Europe. Obama, Hillary, Kerry, and the State Department are 100% responsible for most of it. Everyday be thankful to wake up in the United States. |
