Skinzman 08-07-2015, 01:58 PM <sigh> I was one of those who initially was a fan of the Roberts signing. I have since been cured of that particular delusion. If I recall, we were also pursuing E. Sanders who wound up in Denver instead (I may be wrong on that - it may be that I just wished we had pursued Sanders).
Now that would be a deadly combination: Garcon, D.Jax, Sanders.
Yup. I have seen that too. The only explanation I have is that the way he has always been allowed/taught to play the position is that - if the initial reads aren't there, start looking to run. Because of his athleticism, he was never consistently required to be patient so, once his internal QB clock hits ~2 - 3.0 seconds and he isn't running, he just doesn't know what to do on an instinctual level and his mechanics, vision, etc. goes straight to hell.
Okay stat geeks: Has anyone broken down RGIII's QB rating based on his "time in the pocket?" i.e. - What's his rating when gets rid of the ball in under 2.5 seconds? 3.0? greater than 4.0? I expect it would be a tough stat to find/measure b/c so many factors go into how long you have in the pocket and why a pass was complete/incomplete. At the same time, I would be really interested in seeing if my perception matched reality.
I saw something about this on TV recently (think it was on ESPN). Unfortunately I cant find it right now while doing a search for it. However, it stated that if RG3 gets rid of the ball in under 2.6 seconds, his accuracy is very high. Once it goes past 2.6 seconds for release, his accuracy drops a large amount.
hutch17 08-07-2015, 01:59 PM Agree on all counts. Some of the commentary on Moses:
No knock on Long, but there is a reason Scherff went at five. If Moses is as good or better than Scherff at RT; Scherff at RG is likely much, much better than Long (and that's really not intended as a knock on Long).
Would be REALLY sweet if Kouandijo played well enough to displace Lauvao.
RT Moses (can flip to LT)
RG Scherff (can play RT)
C Lichstensteiger (can slide to G)
LG Kouandijo
LT Williams (All-Pro this year - Pay the man and lock him up).
Back-ups: LeRib (C/G); Long (G/C); Compton (T/G); Cofield (T)
[I think if AK beats out Lauvao, he is not making the team. We have plenty of younger, less expensive guys who can play the spot].
That's a young line with versatility, depth and a whole lot of nasty. [Between Scherff and Williams alone, the nastiness quotient is higher than any non-Williams OL combination we had last year]
Moses playing really well is no surprise, remember he was the 2nd pick of the third round so essentially a 2nd rounder he should be starting.
I think that they drafted Kouandijo to be the starting LG next year and Lavauo is safe this year unless K just crushes it and then yes Lavauo is looking for work.
The Nasty quotiant is awesome
I am not sure why the media is upset with Scherff playing guard if you are a pro-bowler at any position outside of kicker you are worthy of the #5 overall pick and looks like a perennial pro-bowler at gaurd

The reports I've read have all said that Kuandijo has a long way to go. Since Long started out getting first team reps at RG why wouldn't the Skins move him to LG instead of Arie or move Scherff to LG and keep Long at RG if they want to replace Lauvao?
JoeRedskin 08-07-2015, 04:23 PM Not sure who was saying it, but somewhere on the twitterverse, from one of the local insider types, were several comments about how AK was looking really good and taking some snaps with the 1's.
As to Scherff or Long to LG if Moses has really stepped it up and is ready to go as the starting RT -- okay. works for me. Having played line (a bazillion years ago), I would suggest it is a more difficult move from RG to LG than it is from RT to RG. Since everything works out from the center, all of a sudden your playing a mirror image of what you were doing before.
30gut 08-07-2015, 04:30 PM ...RG3 though...when he gets time to throw, he looks worse. Is that possible? Quick throws, 1st read stuff he looks fine. Not sure why that is surprising. When a QBs throws quick its usually because the pre-snap read and the design of the play matched up with what happened post snap. Its after the primary is covered that things get wonky consequently most QBs have better stats when the ball is thrown quickly.
JoeRedskin 08-07-2015, 04:39 PM More on the Moses/Scherff combo.
Brandon Scherff again worked at right guard, with Morgan Moses still starting at right tackle. Scherff appears to be making adjustments, as is Moses. J.J. Watt didn’t have the disruptive kind of day he had on Thursday. During 2-on-2 blocking/rushing drills, Scherff and Moses actually managed to combine to put Watt on his backside during one of their matchups.
Coaches really are intrigued by the possibility of this Scherff-Moses right side. Again, no final decisions are made. But they believe that they have a chance to develop into a formidable tandem. Yes, Washington spent a fifth overall pick on Scherff, and people will say that’s too high to take a guard. But Bill Callahan doesn’t care about that. He believes Scherff has similar capabilities to Zack Martin, whom the Cowboys drafted as a tackle out of Notre Dame, but then moved him inside to guard in 2014. Martin made the Pro Bowl and earned All-Pro status as a rookie guard. Callahan believes in finding the best five linemen.
Several veterans say that Scherff looks more comfortable at guard, where he is better able to better put his impressive strength to use. This isn’t to say that Scherff can’t develop the footwork to become a standout tackle in the NFL. But teammates say he appears to have less to worry about and is playing to his forte. Stay tuned.

I don’t know that any starter is in a particularly vulnerable spot this early in the year. But Arie Kouandjio could eventually overtake Shawn Lauvao. The other day, Gruden oddly and unprompted slipped in “Arie Kouandjio is really coming along at left guard.” Kouandjio hasn’t seen any first-team action, however, and while he does a decent job against backups in one-on-one drills, he really struggles against the starter types.
That was a few days ago, maybe you saw something more recent Joe.
JoeRedskin 08-07-2015, 05:44 PM Nope. That is what I was thinking about. I was just wrong. It happens.
Not often, but it happens. ; )

yeah . . . but that is an average . . . most of the time if he has the ball longer than that he is running for his life or trying to dodge the pass rush or getting sacked as he releases the ball . .. the longer you hold the ball the more of that is going to happen

Me and Bill don't care...
How cool would it be to have a dominant line. It will fix many of our QB probs.....
