I was surprised by this signing but I'll say this.....
Hes a Redskin now and has huge potential.
He had 22 sacks in the last two seasons.
Right now I dont care about his past, I care about his future.
If Preston develops nicely we're going to have a damn good pass rush real soon.

The Washington Redskins started their homework before the New Orleans Saints even released Junior Galette. Dozens of interviews later, including one with Galette himself, convinced them he was a risk worth accepting, Redskins general manager Scot McCloughan said.

"We did our investigation," McCloughan said. "We were thorough, thorough, thorough. We went to the league office and other players [and coaches] in the league. This guy, we feel very comfortable bringing him on board. Very comfortable.

"I can tell you, when he left my room, the guy was crying, the guy was sweating. He was so excited to be a Redskin. That's passion. That's what I'm looking for: competitiveness, toughness. He has to walk the line and he knows that. If he doesn't, then he's gone."

Washington Redskins did thorough check on Junior Galette, GM Scot McCloughan says (http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/13365869/washington-redskins-did-thorough-check-junior-galette-gm-scot-mccloughan-says)

1 - i like that Scot started the background check process before galette was even released. thats some proactive, football-consumes-him type mentality from our GM and I love that.

2 - i love that Scot could connect deep with a player. galette calling us a "properly functioning" organization is odd to hear but im really impressed with Scot.

3 - stunting the growth of 2 2nd rounders in Murphy and Smith is a consideration but TC hasnt even really started yet and injuries can make a lot of "whose starting" decisions. low risk, decent reward situation.

i dont think this guy will be a beast or really play more than 50% of the snaps. i could see him as a specific package type player - 3rd downs and passing plays.

It's encouraging to hear about that.

Some eight balls act contrite in a "come to Jesus" meeting and than go right back to doing what they've always done. So, who knows how Galette will behave from now on?

Junior has been at Redskins Park for about fifteen seconds so he has no earthly idea whether or not the Redskins are a "properly functioning" organization. That sounds more like another dig at the New Orleans organization.

3 - stunting the growth of 2 2nd rounders in Murphy and Smith is a consideration but TC hasnt even really started yet and injuries can make a lot of "whose starting" decisions. low risk, decent reward situation.

If the Skins thought highly of Murphy and Smith as pass-rushers they may not have pursued Galette at all. Murphy is good vs. the run but I think Smith will be a bust because he lacks quickness.

i dont think this guy will be a beast or really play more than 50% of the snaps. i could see him as a specific package type player - 3rd downs and passing plays.

That would be fine with me. If he can make some big plays as a pass rusher that would help the team.

its definitely the honeymoon period right now for Scot, Junior and a bunch of new guys so of course everyone is saying the right things.

re galette past - im not trying to defend him - but i know of 2 incidents.

1 - a woman (i think a family member) would not leave his house and he was charged but they were dropped. without knowing what extent of physical contact there was - that seems minor, maybe even understandable.

2 - the beach belt swinging is bad. his mitigation is that it was a melle w multiple ppl so there is some sense of gender not quit registering in a brawl type situation. i do assume that galette and his boys probably did start cat calling to some girls who were with some guys who didnt like that and stuff popped off. playing the "jump to conclusions" game.

i give big time props to that one guy who wouldnt back down and keep fighting when it seemed he was outnumbered and out gunned. also, fighting in sand looks really really hard. note to self - ground n pound if on beach.

edit - i need to edit this. i did hear that he tweeted personal stuff about his team mates like who was cheating with whom and some other stuff .. i havent read anything specific yet ... but that is really bad, like black balled from an NFL locker room type bad. like lavar giving the giants his playbook bad. i havent read anything yet on it though.

I think he'll play a lot more than that. Have you watched any of his highlights? He's got some nasty pass rush moves and a super high motor.

no I havent seen any highlights. i did read a saints fan forum when the video first came out and then when he was released. slight consensus was that he was not worth the headache and (I think) not the best against the run. that he was named a captain last year but instead of taking a leadership role, he took an elitest approach that it validated him as the big dog in the locker room.

i am a fan of the signing. vet min. fills need of a pass rush expert.

the "high motor" characteristic is what i think Scot really means when he says good character. i think scot wants guys that eat, breath and shit football. football is their life and when scot says "we signed this guy because he is a redskin", thats what he means.

of course having players stay out of trouble is preferable and a players poor decisions that may lead to a suspension means that player may not eat, breath and live football bc he knowingly made a poor decision that would take him off the field.

when Scot says "hes a redskin", that doesnt mean Scot is looking for saints off the field but guys who have drive and put in the work. i dont think amerson or reed is a Scot type redskin.

if he is a beast at 27, hell yeah, even better. what i anticipate from little i know - i imagine he will be used in pass rushing packages and rotated with murphy and smith with 1 or 2 of the 3 on the field at the same time.

i see a lot of substitutions and fresh legs for the front 7 sans Kerrigan and Robinson. there will be no real starters in the traditional sense. i think this is what Scot envisions. lots of fresh good big guys ready to wreak havoc.

lol, with all that said, no, i havent watched actual film on him.

22 sacks in 2 years for $745,000? Low risk, high possible reward. If he doesn't
work out because of off the field or locker room issues send him packing. Kind of like throwing away something bought at the dollar store, not much of a loss if it doesn't work out.

Like M has already stated, I expect to see a lot of him. This guy may prove to be an....Animal! He has a lot to prove and...regain. Has the skill to get it done and if he can keep his personal s... together and the other moves made, we're going to have a strong rush...Cannot Wait!

Not sure I see much risk involved here, if he's a turd you cut him. We've got some good leadership on D to hopefully have him fall in line with.

This is THE end all, be all argument. Do you guys understand that we are paying Galette the same as we are paying Frank Kearse and Jackson Jeffcoat from a salary cap perspective?

Knowing that, how you can still have concerns baffles me, and shows you don't understand the NFL's transaction process.
