30gut 08-25-2015, 03:33 PM Am I in the drunk thread? I never said he didnt run it,just that him and his dad made it clear to whoever would listen he wanted to be a dropback passer going into the 2013 season,I never said he refused to run it or didnt run it,just that he let it be known he didnt want to run it.
I must be in the high thread then.
Okay lets try this then. Since I can't argue all the behind the scenes speculations.
Would you agree that its fair to say that however Griffin feels about read-option he will run in fact do it? As evidenced but him actually running read option in 2013 less then 8 months after reconstructive knee surgery?

I've seen Kirk and McCoy run a few read option plays in the pre season. Jay hasn't called them for Robert. But I do believe that's the ace up his sleeve, I think he'll call them some.
Robert still has the explosiveness, see that end-of-half dash for the TD against the Giants last year, the one where he fumbled the ball as he crossed the goalline. He has the explosion back. I still don't think he knows how to avoid contact well, but if Jay gets him running a bit, I think he'll do better.
If you're Robert, and it's essentially your contract year with everything to prove, I have to think you'd be willing to run the read option. Or do anything to earn a job / second contract. Especially when next season is guaranteed for $16M against injury.
If asked he will run it, and run it hard. Question is how much does Jay call it. We'll see.
30gut 08-25-2015, 03:40 PM Ill be as simple as i can.
In 2012 RG-3 was about as far from a pocket passer as an NFL QB can be due to scheme. This masked the fact that he is not a good pocket passer. I was completely unaware this was a secret until now.So you're argument amounts to the 2012 pistol offense masked Griffin's lack of pocket presence because it masked his lack of pocket presence. Okay got it. Thanks.

Wow. Someone just cant handle the damn truth. Apparently you are the only person in the world who did not realize that the Redskins are trying to make Griff more of a POCKET PASSER and that this requires more of a POCKET PRESENCE/AWARENESS. My God can this be over now?
Edit: there is really nothing to argue as much as you are trying to turn this into one.
kingj 08-25-2015, 03:53 PM @granthpaulsen: We polled #Redskins fans on FB. Who do you want starting at QB? Crazy.
Cousins, 406 votes, 77%
Griffin, 91 votes, 17%
McCoy, 30 votes, 6%.

folks are tired of this jackass. Cousins shuts up and goes to work, that who I want at QB
30gut 08-25-2015, 04:07 PM I think the offense they ran in 2012 slowed the rush. When rushed, Griffin definitely took a lot of shots. But being in the pistol and faking the handoff on the zone read froze a lot of DEs. He wasn't under pressure as often, and he delivered the ball to the first read effectively.I know and I agree. Read-option does a lot to slow down the rush. But, the OL still wasn't good that year and Griffin still performed well. Griffin was pressured on 35% of his throw which was top 10 in NFL. You know who was the TOP QB in terms of accuracy under pressure? Guess.
Rookies at the Top
If I gave everyone reading this a chance to guess the two most accurate quarterbacks under pressure, I’d bet a very small percentage would have come back with the right answer. Robert Griffin III and Ryan Tannehill are currently first and second, respectively, in Accuracy Percentage under pressure.

I know there is a lot of Griffin burying going on. I considered him buried a long time ago. But we gotta at least be accurate when burying the guy. Maybe it easier on some people to forget who good he was but to act like he lacked pocket presence in 2012 is going too far. Griffin stepped up, slide, side-stepped, scrambled and made plays. People are acting as if being under siege in the Lions preseason is the sum of his pocket presence. Its classic prisoner of the moment over reaction.
Also in case people are going attribute 2012 all to play action(pistol offense). Here are Griff's numbers without any play-action at all (drop back passing):
192/230--8 TDs--1 INT---66 comp%--1094 YDs-QB rating or 93.
Now of course Gruden is trying to take him in more of a traditional drop back QB. Maybe that's a mistake. But if Griffin were to keep running for 500+ yards per season I don't like his chances of staying healthy. And I'm not sure he's got the ability to become a drop-back QB. I'm just not sure about him at all.
But I'm hoping. Hoping hard for some signs of life this last season.
Griffin wouldn't even need to run for a lot of yards to be effective in zone-read. The Eagles have imo one of the best offenses in the league (i know, i know everyone here hates Kelly) and their QBs don't run for a ton of yards.
I think Griffin can become a rhythm drop back passer, I don't think WCO is the best fit for him because he's more of power thrower then a finesse thrower and I have even more doubts that Jay is the guy to turn him into a drop back passer.
I have no idea what Jay is trying to do this year. He hasn't shown anything with the 1st string offense. Its been the definition of vanilla. 1st down under center vanilla. But the 2nd-3rd unit playcalling has been more creative. Personally I don't understand nor agree with his approach to the preseason with the first unit.
But different coaches have different approaches to preseason.
NC_Skins 08-25-2015, 04:12 PM Yeah right. Pull up the draft poll and see who didn't like the trade day one. Myself, SFredskin and that's probably it. Never liked the trade and nearly got ran off the board by you guys. Lol.
You actually had a few that didn't like the trade. I voted YES because it was a 2 option poll. The reality of my thoughts were here.

I had no problem with RG3 the prospect. However, I wouldn't have given up that much to move up for him. Too bad that it wasn't Mike Holmgren that made that mistake instead of us. :(
It's great looking back at some of those threads. GTripp was almost right on this.. Luck did lead the Colts to the playoffs that year. I thought Tripp was high on drugs with that prediction...lol
But I think Andrew Luck will actually get the (somewhat undeserved) rookie of the year award when he leads the Colts to the playoffs in the NFL's weakest division.
Hell...even CultBrennan was spot on....lol :laughing-
Heres one of the major differences between Cam and RG3; Cam never gets injured. RG3 has torn his ACL at least once in his career. Cam is 6'5 250, RG3 is "6'2" 220...Cam can take those hits and make those cuts in the nfl, RG3 may blow out his knee game 3 he's more fragile and frail than cam.
All in all, it's fun to look back and say I TOLD YOU SO, but even a broken clock is right twice a day. Enjoy traveling back down memory lane guys.. :food-smil

We were talking about your comment that Griffin lacked pocket presence in 2012.

You can add a third reason, RGme's play on the field the last two years has been terrible. How much longer will we be forced to watch Griffin struggle at QB?
