Personally, I'm weary of taking an offensive lineman who won't play left tackle at 5. I hope he works out, but I felt like a RT could be found later, especially with Williams on the board. He better be a beast if we passed on Williams for him.

That said, I like hearing we had him 3rd, even if I think it was a bit of a reach, I'll reserve judgement and trust in our new front office

Thing is, if you take Williams, assuming no trades that made sense, then at your next pick, who are you taking? Especially as the draft went, you would go from the top OL guy to a middle of the pack at best. I hate to reference the Cowboys positively, but look what Callahan did there. They invested in OL early and their line is pretty :puke: good. I expect Callahan will take Trent and Scherff, and use Moses as the swing backup. Add in Long and our line can effectively maul defenses. I wouldn't be surprised to see a big G/C guy in the 3rd/4th round.

Yep, I voted no. And no I don't post much. #5 is too high to pick a guard, even though I think he'll be a good one. It was a pick of need, not BPA. Obviously, the trade down offers were too low in Round 1 to consider, so we had to stay there which is ok. All the pass rushers were gone, but guys like Williams come around every 5 years or so. Scot Mccloughn has been doing this for decades. If he thought that T/G was worth drafting at 5. We should trust his judgement. Keep in mind that we've had rbs, wr, and te drafted in the top ten. I don't believe that anyone of these positions are more important than neither tackle position, but that's just my opinion. Stop listening to those pretenders on ESPN and the NFL Network. If they ever work in anyone's front office. They are only on these networks because they weren't very good at their jobs. If they never worked in anyone's front office it's safe to say that they're not experts.

No.
Why not? He's a top ten talent. We had a lot of people on this board talking about drafting him at five.

All his highlights show him playing LT. No concerns with him moving to RT?

That's why you bring in a guy like Bill Callahan. I'm sure he had input on the pick and is confident he can coach him up.

Because trading up 4 picks is kind of stupid. Tennessee won't take him, they just signed Rak and they need weapons for Mariota, Jacksonville just took Fowler, the Raiders drafted Khalil Mack last year but could draft him, and how much defense can the Jets draft before they try to help the offense?

And Winston shows his immaturity right after the draft:

With all the off the field issues he's had, he probably should stay away from little stunts like these. I know it was only "crab legs", but as I said, it just shows immaturity.
