I'd compare Smith to another smith, Antonio smith. Or someone like an aldon Smith just not as athletic. Just MO. I just hope he's a good player and I believe he is

Washington Redskins' Joe Barry: Dashon Goldson 'exactly what you want' - Washington Redskins Blog - ESPN (http://espn.go.com/blog/washington-redskins/post/_/id/17604/joe-barry-dashon-goldson-exactly-what-you-want)

I wish we could sticky this for the next time someone gets their panties in a bunch over the 3-4 vs the 4-3...

On running the 3-4: "I was a 4-3 guy for years and then the last four years in San Diego, being involved in the 3-4. That’s the thing people don’t realize: You’re in a base 3-4 about 15-18 snaps a game because the NFL has gotten to the point where it’s a sub league, meaning they’re in nickel personnel groups about 75 to 80 percent of the time. When you’re talking about a base 3-4 team or a base 4-3 team, that’s 20 percent of the game. The other 80 percent you’re in nickel, you’re in dime. So, no, I really don’t get hung up and caught up in base 4-3 or base 3-4. I learned it. I really enjoyed it the last four years and it’s a perfect fit here because we are built from a base defense to be a 3-4.”

Good read. I'm really hoping we hit with this Barry hire....coming from haz, he seems like a breath of fresh air, certainly a different energy who seems like he wants these guys work hard off the field and just come to play football on Sunday. Haz squad sometime seemed mentally unprepared and seemed like he his scheme was more complicated than most. I just want our d to come out, play loose and with energy.

At this point who cares? Just stop someone on 3rd down and stop giving up so many big plays.

Actually, I am aiming a bit higher, but stop someone on third would be a pleasant start.....
People get very hung up on the 3/4.....4/3 thing. He does a good job dispelling it.

Washington Redskins OTA observations, Part 2: Surprises with starters - Washington Redskins Blog - ESPN (http://espn.go.com/blog/washington-redskins/post/_/id/17635/redskins-ota-observations-part-2-surprises-with-the-starters)

One defensive surprise: Duke Ihenacho worked with the starters at strong safety ahead of free-agent signee Jeron Johnson. It seemed clear that Johnson would be the starter after he was signed. But Ihenacho has more starting experience. I’m curious to see how he plays when the pads are on; he reacted fast to the run Tuesday.

Another surprise: Trevardo Williams worked with the starting unit in place of Ryan Kerrigan (out after arthroscopic knee surgery last week). Rookie Preston Smith worked with the second string. I like that he wasn’t automatically added. Also, Smith and Trent Murphy worked on the right side while Williams worked mostly on the left (there are times when they switch sides based on the offensive formation).

Third-year corner David Amerson worked with the second-team defense Tuesday. When DeAngelo Hall is healthy, I’d imagine he’ll return to the starting lineup (assuming he hasn’t lost anything because of the Achilles’ injury). Hall said in the first four weeks of the offseason, he worked with the starters whenever they were on the field. Bashaud Breeland is the No. 3 corner, it appears -- his ability to cover in the slot helps.I think he meant Amerson worked with the first-team defense.

Our D-Line this year just looks like some nasty MFers.
