Essentially got him for nothing. Swapping a 6th with their 7th AND they are picking up 4mil on his contract. A bargain if you ask me. Low risk, high reward payoff.
a bargain ? he was about to be cut.....the fact that they gave up next to nothing indicates that no one in the NFL thought much of him- he is not a definite starter
look at his stats, 1 PD and no interceptions last year = Ryan Clark 2.0

I don't know anything about Goldson other than that he has not succeeded in TBay, he is older, he was a sought after UFA a couple years ago, and he is a former Scot McC guy.
At the same time, given the state of available/draftable safeties in the league, I find it hard to believe he could be any worse than what we had last year and is likely to be, at the very least, a minor upgrade.
Anybody got a good scouting report on him that explains his failures in TBay? Did his physical ability noticeably drop or is it possible he didn't really fit schematically with what TBay was trying to do? Is he truly just the next Ryan Clark or is there potential for him to have a bit of a resurgence?
He was an all pro free safety under Vic Fangio d in san fran who left to get paid in tampa. Fangio plays mix coverages in the secondary, but going single high safety i believe was the main tendency in San Fran. Tampa was tampa 2 defense

This gives us the luxury of drafting a FS later in the draft and develop for the future.

A two win team is letting him walk. Not impressed by this one. Seems like Ryan Clark all over again.

Lovie has basically gotten rid of everybody in the secondary, he is trying to get folks that fit his scheme.

Just a stop gap. The Skins need some players to plug to at least field a reasonably good team as they try to build this team up.

You do not see an improvement from Ryan Clark and Brandon Meriweather to D. Goldson and Jeron Johnson?

When he played here in SF he was known as a hard hitting S, he's also been known to be prone to personal fouls due to his aggresive play. I think it's a solid low risk move. Scot does it again.

As far as Johnson is concerned, he's a complete unknown as far as being a full time starter. We don't know if he's an upgrade over Merriweather cause there's no track record. But I actually like this one as he's still young and can at least play teams.
DG got paid and from what it looks like, did nothing. Just don't like this signing.

the issue is whether Goldson is better than Clark. I would rather have D. Hall and a rookie at FS
