Another thing people are forgetting is the fact that we have a new Defensive coordinator.

I'm with the rest of you, I want to see our defense improved (obviously) but we have NO idea how these players are going to mesh and play together when we don't even fully know what our defense is going to look like.

At this point, all we can do is wait and have faith in our team. With Scot Mc running things around here i have more faith than previous years.

Lets save the complaining for AFTER the season.

Everyone needs to cheer up! It's the off season and we're definitely getting better. That's all I wanted.

After the TB debacle and the fact that he signed a 1 year like Knighton, I can see Goldson being hungry and try to prove himself.

Just to point out, Goldson didnt sign a 1 year contract. He still has 3 years remaining on his existing contract. This year he has a 4 mil cap hit since TB ate the 4 mil left in guaranteed money. The next 2 years, the cap hit is in the 7 to 8 mil range. However, he has no guaranteed money left in his contract, so we can cut him with nothing against the cap (unless we cut him after he earns his workout bonus).

He should have incentive to gain those last two years of his contract though. If he doesnt play well and gets cut next offseason, he will not be signing for much at all imo.

Good point also a good reason to trade and not wait till he is cut.

Not only do I think we get a pass rusher with the first pick, but I we also draft a ilb(mlb) to give strong competition to Riley. Where there is really limited safety options this draft, the inside linebacker position has some strong 2nd round-5th prospects. There is another linebacker at Clemson not named beasly who is a solid player..name escapes me but he projects as ILB, seems really talented

Linebacker Stephone Anthony and defensive tackle Grady Jarrett will be joining Beasley as top-100 draft choices from Clemson defense.

What do we currently have on the team at that position that says we're better off with them rather than picking up Goldson? I mean, sure, McCloughan is not going to hit on every player he chooses, whether that be in the draft or free agency. But, he's right more than he's wrong, and even if Goldson doesn't turn out to contribute much to the team, it's not like we're paying him a huge guaranteed contract.

Just continue to trust the system. It's going to take awhile.

The only downside to this trade is we may possibly be overpaying for a starting safety.

At the same time, if he doesn't make the team or if a better option arises after teams start cutting rosters, all we done is moved down in the 6th round to ensure we at least had a starting caliber free safety.on the roster.

If we end up overpaying for his services this year, okay. Not like T.Williams is getting cut to make room for him. There is plenty of cap flexibility and a 1-2M overpay is not going to hurt us in either the short or long term. Signing Goldson gives us an insurance policy at the FS position and doesn't prevent us from exploring any of the other options others have said we should do (moving guys, signing guys, drafting guys, developing. guys).

^^ agreed. And this allows us to go into the draft with at least some flexibility regarding safeties. If somehow there is a run in the second we aren't caught picking from a bare cupboard.

with all the holes to fill there will have to be chances taken..Its not like there are a lot of options out there for a starting safety. we really did not give up much to take a chance at upgrade..and if we sat still we might not could have landed this player..desperate teams sometimes do desperate things..The Skins are desperate at DB …maybe the worst in the league last year..
