He could be a very good rotation guy in Barry's one-gap.

one gap as in he would take on the center? or one gap as in d line guys will try to clog/shoot only 1 pre-assigned gap and not have a choice?

or some 3rd answer which im too dumb to even know exists?

i didnt know DE could have one gap responsibility .... (but i dont really know what one gap is)

IMO drafting Shelton, and kicking a re-signed, more affordable Cofield out to end, would be cool.

"The Redskins also announced that they have signed right tackle Tom Compton to a one-year deal. Compton started nine games for Washington last season and was set to become a restricted free agent next month."

from the article chico linked. im fine w compton on the cheap for camp. if he makes the team as a backup, so be it.

When you add that to the savings for cutting Cofield, the Redskins gained almost $10 million in cap space.

Redskins need to start getting rid of older players a year early rather than 1-2 years too late. Cofield is the perfect example of someone that it's time to move on from.

I agree, if he can get healthy he's worth another look at a much lower rate.

That's the factor if he can get healthy

So you sign him and let him prove he's healthy in camp. He wouldn't command big guaranteed money, so no downside.

I'll always respect Bowen and Cofield for being good guys off the field, but I'm not sad to see them go. I'm fine if Cofield comes back on a team friendly deal though.
