I wish they had some kind of point/player evaluation scale that was standard across the league when it came to contracts. That way people wouldn't have to worry about underpaying and overpaying.
I wish more contracts were incentive based. It will never get that way now; but I would much rather have guys start with a base salary depending on their time in the league (it wouldnt be chump change, but it would make sure you dont overpay) ; and then good incentives to be built of of that.
If he's still in Miami come training camp time, then I'll have a serious problem with Taylor. Until then, it would be nice if he would at least return phone calls to his boss.

Incentive based contracts are hard to sell, Gmanc. What about coaches who bench players so they don't reach an incentive to save money. Or what if all the players hit incentives and send you over the cap? Too many bad things can happen if the whole team has incentive laced contracts.

Yeah. Like give a good signing bonus to make sure they get those spinners they want for their SUVs and then make them EARN their checks.

No one who works their ass off at college to go get a decent paying job, or anyone who goes to work every day and makes about 70 grand a year wants to hear these guys or any other athletes bitch and moan when they are making that kinda money.
Truer words have never been spoken! great post!

That is fine if everything were equal but....the NFL and their players generate billions of dollars for the league and their owners. I am not sure if you generate that much for you boss?
Most of the billions earned by ther NFL is on the backs and broken knees of the players. Add to that the average players career span is 3.5 years. I would rather see the players get their share than see the owners pocket it all.
Regarding you statement above: How would you feel if you are making $70K and the guy in the office next you (doing the same job) is making $500K? Add to that, you are doing the job much better than then your over paid co-worker. Would you still whistle on your way to work? I would not, I'd be pissed.

When it comes to where people are making millions and millions that is a VERY different story. When you have millions, WORLDS of opportunity are opened up for you. That's completely different from making $70,000. When you are making millions, you are living a life of luxury.
