I don't think anyone is freaking out at all...but some of us are frustrated and pissed at the choice for obvious reasons. Sure he could be great...but it seems unlikely. Just sick of sucking year after year...and after the last 2 hires I was hopeful the front office turned a major corner...and now back to the same old crap again...so you either get pissed or depressed or you go back into denial mode and enable the same crap. Quite frankly I feel like I am in some sort of dysfunctional relationship. Perhaps the skins mean too much to me...it just ain't healthy. I am sure I am not alone. It seems like Groundhog Day with a bad ending

Any info on his scheme? Is it too early for him to have a scheme?
More Pittsburg with big guys occupying lineman or more Wade Phillips with the d line actively rushing?
I believe Jay said 3-4 today

Lions 2008 defensive roster can be found at the link. Aside from the immortal Chartric Darby, Barry didn't have much to work with.

I'm really trying to reserve judgement, but this seems like more of the old. Barry's resume fails to impress. A lifetime position coach who failed miserably when he was last in this role. He doesn't seem like he's going to help us within 1-2 years -- and that's all Jay probably has. If Jay leaves then Barry's done too.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
Just like the storylines of the years past:
1) "Haslett will be much better because Shanny was no longer handcuffing him."
2) "Bringing back the same secondary with Ryan Clark will somehow be better."
3) "Hatcher still has plenty of gas in the tank at age 30+"
4) "Orakpo would be unleashed this year -- and deserved a franchise tag."
5) "Rambo is playing so much better"
I've heard these crazy stories in the past. I'm now just waiting for McC's drafts to make us better each year for the next 3-4 years, and will be along for the ride.

For me this has been a great offseason so far, the GM I wanted was hired, the best OL coach available fell on our laps and Foerster was replaced. I like the fact that Joe Barry is pretty much an unknown with much to prove after his Detroit experience (so glad Haslett is long gone) I believe he will be highly motivated, energetic and make players accountable. This is what I wanted and you won't hear me bitching for quite awhile :)

Dammit! Is it too much to ask for the Redskins to hire a defensive coordinator that ran a GOOD defense before? First Haslett of ever diminishing returns on the Ds he ran. Now we bring in Mr.0-16.
Swell.
One thing I liked about Gruden's comments, he stated a large part of their discussion was how Barry was going to develop young players.....
hope it works out.

well, i'm not jumping for joy. i guess we'll see, but i was really hoping they could get someone better in here. odds are this is nothing better than a lateral move.

You actually believed that B.S.?
OK, I confess, I still believe that Hatcher can help us but now we're in a build with young players mode so it makes little sense for him to be here.
