That would top all, wouldn't it? For once, RGIII would be speechless. :saywhat:

The plot thickens.

I would be speechless too. And this has nothing to do with RGIII IMO. It's just that:

The team doesn't have an offensive line that can help a RG3, Cousins, or a rookie QB.
Why would we go after another QB that has played in the spread system and would need to develop as a pocket QB?
If Mariotta falls to #5, it is very likely that they'd have multiple suitors to trade up, since the Jets will likely take him at #6.

Mariotta at 5 would seriously test my "In Scot we trust" mantra.

the mariotta interest screams "if you want him, come and get him"

I hope we take advantage of Chip Kelly's dumb moves and get a ransom of picks if he decides to trade up. Another possible trade partner would be Cleveland, but they'd be moving up from 12.

I heard someone on ESPN this morning, I think it was Bill Polian, saying that he believes Tennessee will likely take Mariotta at #2.

Whisenhunt seems to prefer pocket passer types. I have a hard time seeing him taking Mariota at #2.

That was brought up, but the Titans may not be thrilled or committed to Mettenberger. QB is a big need in Tennessee, so they may not have a choice.

There's also the possibility that the Bucs take Mariotta over Winston (though very unlikely).

So John Clayton said on ESPN Radio that if Mariotta is there at #5 that we're taking him.

Just doesn't make any sense to me.
Clayton is on the Kevin and Thom show on 980 and he.....states...YES they take him if available at #5
According to him....."to good to pass up. May be long time before another opportunity like this presents itself. Smart move"

While I'm not totally sold on Mariota, how awesome would it be if we DID take him at 5 and he totally panned out to be a great QB. Chip would have to watch his former talent win in his division year in and year out.

A guy can dream right?

While I really want the Skins to trade down, I don't think there are as many trade partners as people think. There are some teams that need a back up/ future QB, but are they going to trade a bunch of picks to get a guy who will sit a year or more?

If we did that and unloaded Gryphon for something half decent I dont see that as a bad deal.
