I do agree with everybody that thinks that Wade would be a good hire for DC. He would be. It's a smart hire, and one I would make.

Bill Belichick, one of the most successful coaches in the league, has hired and re-hired people he knows. Everyone in the NFL gets hired because they know someone. I don't understand why is it so hard for people to comprehend this.

That being said, Wade Phillips is one of the best DCs in the NFL. I remember the year he went to Houston and made them into an elite defense on their first year of switching from a 4-3 to a 3-4.

On if the rest of the defensive staff remains in place:

“Coach Gruden is meeting with all of the assistant coaches and he had just been with Jim [Haslett] the last two days specifically and will make those determinations. We will start the defensive coordinator search later today and start exploring some names and bring in some people for interviews but Jay will make those decisions later on.”

I thought Jay was going to pick his DC.

With this odd organizational structure, who knows how decisions are made.

I can totally understand the argument for wanting to play the process out. For one thing, it doesn't sound like Phillips is meeting with several other teams and there's a bidding war for him. I don't get the argument that Wade is a nice guy and therefore destined to fail here
