I don't think these guys should get Calvin Johnson type money, but at the same time their respective teams are going to do anything and everything to get them for the cheapest amount of money.

In a normal situation, you'd have some agreement in the middle; however, the franchise tag, gives teams a huge advantage in their negotiation. I know people's initial reaction is to side with the team. But it sucks to be them, because the franchise tag doesn't help them with their negotiation.

At the end of the day, they'll either need to take the franchise tag (paid on a weekly basis and not guaranteed), take a very team friendly deal, or hold out.

Huh?? Won't both make 11 million next year by signing the tag? That's a huge raise over what they're making right now. That money alone can last a lifetime if it's managed right. Sucks to be them.

These are the rules and how they were set. Yeah they want guaranteed money but if they don't like it then get a 9-5. Would you give Dez Bryant a ton of money and not have something in there to protect yourself? We're talking about a guy who beat up his mom.

People are severely overpaying for talent.

@AdamSchefter

KC's Justin Houston signed a 6-year, $101M deal that includes $52.5M GTD, richest Chiefs' deal in history, richest LB deal in NFL history.

22 sacks will get you paid.

Kerrigan will not be getting anything close to 100 million, and if he does they all need to be fired.

Players are always going to look for guaranteed money, especially when they are in their prime. I know Dez is a bad character, but I'm talking about players in general when it comes to the franchise tag and how it disadvantages players. And don't take it from me, since I'm just a fan; Andrew Brandt has mentioned this a number of time on the Ross Tucker podcast.

Anyway, pretty surprised Dez got a contract. His threats may have actually worked.

Trent Williams dismisses agent Ben Dogra - The Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/football-insider/wp/2015/04/10/trent-williams-dismisses-agent-ben-dogra/)

^^ trent fired his agent in april

Asked Thursday if he’d like to be a Redskin for life, Williams told Redskins.com TV’s Larry Michael: “Of course. Of course. That’s a no-brainer.

“We’ll see,” Williams continued. “Business has to work itself out. Obviously I’m not educated in that department, so I’ve got my representation, and I just let them guys talk and let them handle it, and hopefully we can get something done soon.”

Asked April 27 about the contract negotiations with both Williams and Kerrigan, first-year Redskins general manager Scot McCloughan said “they’re ongoing, but nothing substantial” in the way of progress was able to be reported at the time.

“But there’s been discussions,” McCloughan said. “We’re not in a hurry, hurry to do it, but we’d like to. We see them as quality Redskin football players, and they’re both highly talented. It’s a big contract, but discussions are going on. We definitely have been staying in touch with the agents.”

well, kerrigan and williams are the type of players you want to keep, so if everyone is being rational, it shouldn't be an issue to get it worked out.
