While I do not dispute, and in fact agree, with your assertions that Wilson had an effect on the various areas you cite, those factors only have value if they are transferable to a new team. For example -- while he likely would cause some improvement in time of possession, defense, and running game here, I don't see him having the impact suggested by the numbers you cite. Mainly because each of those stats is much more dependent on the other personnel involved rather than straight up passing numbers (not suggesting passing numbers are not dependent on others, just suggesting defensive rankings, time of possession, and improved running game or much more so).

Since his effect much more dependent upon personnel around him, his value is a much more difficult thing to quantify. His straight passing numbers are just not that impressive. That may be why there is such wide disagreement as to his value. I imagine that one or two teams would value him very highly while others not so much.

Thank you for posting this. Couldn't have said it better myself.

this video is quite disturbing. I go to the beach quite often, I've never seen anything like this.

I don't think junior galette should ever play football again.

And for the defense it's not him, well it's def him:

Clinton Portis never was a smart man.

On the other hand, here you have Gronk who's smart with his money. You'd think he'd be a dumb jock, but he's smart enough to not blow his money like an idiot.

“To this day, I still haven’t touched one dime of my signing bonus or NFL contract money. I live off my marketing money and haven’t blown it on any big-money expensive cars, expensive jewelry or tattoos and still wear my favorite pair of jeans from high school… I don’t hurt anyone (except Gord with the occasional kick to the groin), I don’t do drugs, I don’t drive drunk, I don’t break the law… I’m a 23-year-old guy just looking to have a fun time.”

Not surprised to hear about Portis. Several years ago when he was still playing, he use to gamble with a client of mine. They'd go to Atlantic City and so forth. Anyhow, one time Portis pissed through a bunch of money at the tables. My client gave him 30k and Portis in turn wrote him a 30k check, which he showed me when we had to meet. But he use to tell me CP loved gambling.

Can't believe there is really any doubt over Portis' intelligence. I can remember one of the first times i heard him open his mouth, i was severely concerned about his future post-NFL.

No secret that I didn't like him while he was here. His me first attitude, coupled with the fact that he didn't believe in working out, or training camp / pre-season. Washington didn't find out he was a cancer until too late in his career.

I'll give him his due though - it's amazing that for a guy who didn't really train or do any kind of preperation, he was able to show up on Sunday and do what he did for so long. Makes me wonder how great he could have been if he would have been fully committed to practice / training etc.. After he was cut by us, i'll admit I was actually said when the reports came in about him showing up for his Patriots workout at almost 300 lbs....

So having a gambling problem is synonymous with intelligence? You learn something new everyday on the inter webs.

He's definitely not the first or last player to not like practice or training camp. All I know is he balled out when it was game time.

I'm always a little puzzled when people hate on one of the most productive RBs in team history.

I dont hate Portis but he made a ton...a ton of money for a RB in his career. If his is excuse is gambling then he is a complete and utter idiot.

I couldn't agree more. I remember his first carry as a Redskin -- something like 60 yards for a TD against the Cardinals (I was at FedEx and the place went nuts). He was also not afraid to mix it up -- I think he was the best blocking RB we've ever had. Hardly the stuff of a prima donna. He liked to be the center of attention, to be sure, but he also brought it every Sunday.

I like CP and wish him well and hope he sorts out his financial situation (which sounds pretty bad).

All things offseason..... don't you guys love the fact that the Politically Correct crowd has moved on to the Confederate flag as their object of hate and left our beloved racially slurred team name alone for the momment?

I do!
