I hate statements like this...when i inteview and notice high energy level, it is usually compensating for a crap mind.

If it comes down to the guy who is an assistant in a pretty good San Diego defense over the guy who was part of our defensive staff, I'll take the guy in San Diego.

Also, the team tried to go after good candidates and were turned down. Not the sexiest hire I guess (if it is true), but you have to see what pans out.

why is it terrible?

Because Bruce Allen was involved.

We interviewed good candidates too. Maybe they said no to us...and some of them we didn't get permission to interview.

Look at John Harbaugh. He was the Special Teams coach for Philly for 9 years. Looking at this link his special teams never really lite it up.

I think he is a pretty good HC now.

Maybe Barry has learn stuff from his last go around as DC, IDK.

None of us sat in on these interviews. Kind of hard to decide a hire when you didn't hear the interview.

Any who welcome aboard Joe, you got a lot of work to do, I wish you the best.

So, if this is true and we are hiring Barry, after making one of the best moves possible at GM....the Redskins pass over defensive coordinators that ALL have better performance histories and ignore a Hall of Famer, and Bills and Niners coordinators....and hire someone they know again?....not only that...he was personally was responsible for one of the worst defenses in the history of the game?....I didn't like Haslett when he has hired because he had a tendancy to produce teams that ranked 20th out of 32 teams consistantly....but this guy based on Detroit was horrible....but he does have a personal relationship....which is how the Redskins continue to hire.

Our new GM probably just threw up....he should have had hiring coaches in his contract....oh well...that honeymoon didn't last very long.

Yup. I am right there with you. Just like game tape tells you more about players than their combine "interview," a coach's past performance tells you more about them than their interview.

With that said, while his work in Detroit was bad (really bad), I am interested in what he has done lately.

I am also with the group who think there are better candidates. I hope I am wrong.

In Scot we trust.

So you know for a fact that we turned down all the other candidates we interviewed? And they all wanted to be the Redskins' DC? Wow, you must be a hell of an insider.

It's more good ole boy network but this is how this organization operates. I would've preferred that they went outside the box and taken Eric Mangini. He's probably too much of a threat to Gruden though.
