I could care less about Phillips' HC resume (which isn't exactly terrible at 82-64), his track record as DC is what counts. The guy knows how to run a succesful defense.

Well, I might as well get used to it, Wade Phillips will be the new DC. His son is the TE coach, AJ Smith and him are tight, he attended like 5 regular season. Bruce will hire him, that's the way Allen operates. I would be shocked if they hired someone else.

You make it sound like no other NFL team operates around familiarity. I am willing to bet that Bellicheck isn't hiring someone who no one on his staff knows. In fact I don't think any team operates that way. Coaching and staff chemistry, while not the only criteria is probably always apart of the evaluation.

Yeah, although his HC record doesn't matter, his HC record is better than I thought.

The only problem I see with adding Philips is that we should have made that move long ago.

Can someone give me a breakdown of Phillips defense compared to Haslett's? I know he's a 3-4 guy too, but I believe has a different mentality to how to run it. If we stay with the 3-4 I want us to go out and get the type of NT that buffets lock their doors when they see him coming.

How the Redskins defense would look with Wade Phillips as DC : Redskins (http://www.reddit.com/r/Redskins/comments/1vh0bs/how_the_redskins_defense_would_look_with_wade/)

The TL;DR of this is that Wade does everything the exact opposite of Haslett.

Plus his daughter is inexplicably attractive.

Inexplicable- Not able to be explained or understood

Some of you might remember her as the 'dead girl' in the My Chemical Romance music video for Helena (Link cued up to Relevant Part) (http://youtu.be/UCCyoocDxBA?t=2m3s).

I remember when he was DC here in Atlanta he was actually using lighter DE's up front because he emphasized shooting the gaps more than occupying blockers at the point of attack. Wonder how that would translate here. Regardless I'm for this move 110%

Wade Phillips runs a 1 gap 3-4 scheme, whereas Jim Haslett runs a more traditional 2 gap scheme. In a traditional 2 gap scheme the NT and DE's will read their respective holes and react to the play as the play begins. This read-react causes the lineman to have to first think about the action, then react to it. So they have to be larger bodied men to offset the time it takes to react to the play in order to hold your ground so the offensive lineman can't get leverage on you.

And there it is.

Cofield might benefit more than anyone if we hire Philips. Wade likes a small, quick NT (think Jay Ratliff in his prime), which suits Cofield nicely.

We'll need much better corners to play the man style coverage that Wade prefers.

No problem. Happy to share it. I just stumbled on it this afternoon, actually.
