I think if we had a stud OL that could protect our QB maybe Gruden would be a little more willing to get him into the fire. As it stands now protection is limited and our QBs are forced to protect themselves...mostly with their ability to make good quick decisions on where to go with the ball.

I am honestly greatly concerned that at this point Griffin isn't mentally prepared to run a pro offense. I know he's been hurt and the turmoil has been real around him but when we give up what we gave up for him I think we're expecting someone who has the innate abilities to learn and grow quickly. I am also concerned that our coaching staff is focused on fitting a guy in rather than fitting a system to a team's players.

If Gruden had his way, RG3 would not take the field again this year

Let's run through each QB and the 3 key decision makers

Griffin

Snyder: Loves him. This is the franchise, the meal ticket. If Colt is playing well and winning the ONLY way RG3 takes the field is because of Snyder

Allen: Indifferent towards him as a QB, but realizes he's $$ in the bank when he's on the field and playing well

Gruden: Thinks RG3 is nowhere near ready to play football. And I'm not talking about physically, I'm talking about understanding and being able to execute the offense. That's why Jay keeps saying when Rob's "healthy and ready to play football" As in the doctors might clear him, but that doesn't mean he's ready to play

Cousins

Snyder: Probably wants him gone ASAP now

Allen: Likes him, but sort of eh

Gruden: So so on him as a person, thought he'd be the perfect QB to execute his offense for this year. Knows ceiling is limited though

McCoy

Snyder: Probably didn't even know who he was until yesterday

Allen: Huge fan. Use to watch games with Jon back in 2009 and they'd talk often about Colt being the perfect WCO QB

Gruden: Colt is far and away his favorite. Loves him as a person, loves him as a QB. So total package Colt is his favorite of the 3. But he and Colt both know his role on this team is at best solid #2

However, as long as Jay believes RG3 is not ready and Cousins has shat (shitted? shitten?) the bed then you ride that #2 until you can't no more. And it helps that Allen feels strongly about Colt too

Thanks for the info SS. this reads like a script for a QB controversy play or something

I dont know, think RG3 only gets better with more time in the pocket running the offense.

I really dont like this Dan guy being included with his opinions. That reeks of the past

Well luckily this is not Dallas, otherwise RG3 would be playing right now with a mildly healthy ankle.

At the end of the day, Jay needs to figure out how to get RG3 ready to play. I don't mind his careful approach, but if RG3 doesn't work out in the end that's a failure on everyone involved (including RG3).

As you said at one point SS, it's disconcerting that RGIII works as hard as he does, is as talented as he is athletically, and, yet (according to Gruden), he is still not capable of running a straight-up pro offense. Is it that he has to unlearn bad habits? Is he incapable of anticipating/trusting receivers? Does he not have pocket sense? Unilke reading D's - which is a learnable skill, is RGIII lacking one of the innate unteachable skills necessary for a QB?.

Don't get me wrong, I love this kid, really. Everything about him. Talent, head screwed on right, all the elements for leadership, etc. I am hoping it clicks for him ... soon.

Obviously Gruden has seen him now since March or so? He's got a feel for him now. I'm thinking it's all of the above and that's why we saw that JV offense week one. The thing with Griffin is this offense, or the pro game in general does not come natural for him. To me he needs a mixture of 2012, maybe some Chip Kelly and some pro. That's on the coaches to design an offense around him. But RG3 wants to be Rodgers. Three years in and we still don't know if he's the guy.

Well I'm talking about the present. Redskins fans love to b*tch about the past and dwell on it.

I would imagine that ratings number doesn't translate into stadium attendance; I could be wrong.

I know you were but someone had to say it anyway.
I love the way Griff isnt being rushed back. Imo we should probably let him come back after the Tampa game unless Colt is setting the world on fire. I think we can win both games without him.
