calia 04-22-2005, 03:24 PM Has anyone heard anything? I can't believe that we are going to get through the draft and still have Garnder on our roster. Cutting him later for nothing in return would be flat out stupid.
There's plenty of stupid to go around over at Redskins Park these days. The Denver swap was foolish -- 9 and 25 doesn't get you two impact players in this draft, and you likely lose an impact player in next year's draft (a deeper draft in all likelihood) as a result. More to the point, if they shed both of those picks (and God knows what else) to move up, they'll pick a WR that won't likely be as good as Coles had they figured out a way to keep the guy happy. (I maintain that any guy who snaps his finger back in place and continues to play is a guy I want on my team.) And the Campbell rumors (if there's nothing to them, which I suspect is the case) aren't likely to help Ramsey's psyche. Moreover, how much was Campbell tested given the strength of his backfield? Good mechanics and a nice kid isn't enough. I fear we're about to make some very poor decisions. Is it my imagination or os Cerrato dumber than dirt?
TheMalcolmConnection 04-22-2005, 03:25 PM Say it WERE to happen, what you guys think of that?
Personally, I would like to have Taylor but that would be a HELL of a price considering it wasn't our defense that was close to the last of the league.

I have been reading on all of this recently and it has been a much debated topic here on who "wears the pants" in the respective relationships in the Redskins organization. I've come to the conclusion that Gibbs has been the one who makes the final say in any transaction. Snyder and Cerrato give their opinion and it's Gibbs who gives the thumbs up or down. Before you put undue blame on people, just understand that Gibbs is the one who is figuratively signing on the dotted line.
joethiesmanfan 04-22-2005, 04:05 PM hmm getting taylor and the number 2 pick for gardner and the 9th pick and the 25th pick then trading down from #2 to get a first and a second sounds real nice equals taylor a 1st and a second for gardner the 9th and the 25th pick sounds pretty darn good to me. sounds like miami would like those two picks they could get what they want for those picks. but as far as giving up next years first round pick we not gonna be that bad this year that pick will not be an impact player who knows what we would get next year we need improvement now then worry about next year next year. if we hadve stayed like we were and lets say ramsey dont have good receivers and dont produce then we would need that first round pick next year for a QB anyway.

sportscurmudgeon 04-22-2005, 05:47 PM Let me offer some assistance here if I may:
Any news on Gardner?
Yes there is. No other team in the NFL wants him bad enough to offer the Skins a 3rd round pick for him. In fact, I'd be surpriseed to learn that they had a concrete offer of a 4th rounder for Gardner.
Any news on Gardner?
Yes there is: Gardner has a contract that is not a cap-buster next year but this is the last year of his deal. So to trade him, the Skins need to find a team willing to give them something (a draft pick) in exchange for a WR who will be a free agent at the end of next year. That other team has to think that Gardner will have a really big year for them and that really big year will put the new team over the top. What evidence is there that Gardner will EVER have a big year?
Any news on Gardner?
Yes there is: The Redskins FO overplayed their hand once again in this little opera. Instead of giving Gardner's agent the hammer in trying to arrange a trade, the Skins should have tried to swing a deal for Gardner themselves - taking less a for him because of the uncertainty of his contract status or willingness to do an extension this year - and moved on. Problem now is that everyone in the league knows that the Skins really don't want Gardner in the same zip code with the rest of the team and so they aren't lining up to make a splashy offer to get him to another city.
BTW, someone suggested trading Moss. Let me tell you why that isn't going to happen unless Moss is caught molesting one of Joe Gibbs' household pets. Santana Moss is what the Redskins FO managed to get for the less than effective way they handled the LC fiasco. If they give him away too, then they have nothing to show for that brilliant piece of personnel strategy - - except of course for the $8M cap hit in terms of dead money this year.
joethiesmanfan 04-22-2005, 06:02 PM all ye of little faith i liked it better when i was younger and didnt know anything until preseason and was like who is that QB when one of are starters got hurt and watched that QB win games. I am rooting for the skins. who should we pick with our picks everyone knows we gonna get a corner. i am not sold on braylon edwards seems like westbrook to me. the LC deal he was a spurrier guy so is gardner is a shotty guy and Ramsey another spurrier guy. every coach gotta get their guys in...give coach come time Gardner didnt turned out we may get something for him then again we not...?
offiss 04-22-2005, 06:53 PM I wouldn't do the taylor trade, if DE is the direction we are going I would stay pat at and take Merriman, he's a stronger younger version of Taylor and a better all around football player, Taylor may rush the passer better than Merriman but Merriman will be no slouch pressuring the QB and he's 9 years younger to boot and hit's much harder than Taylor.
Beemnseven 04-22-2005, 06:54 PM A few thoughts…
1. I don’t want Jason Taylor. Sooner or later he’s going to run out of gas just like Warren Sapp did. Besides, getting Taylor only gives the front office another one of their yearly excuses not to use a high draft pick on a defensive linemen.
2. We’ve heard it here a thousand times. Teams throughout the league already see Rod Gardner like a broken refrigerator sitting outside somebody’s house ready to be picked up by the Salvation Army. And if we’ve thought of it here at the Warpath, you’ve got to believe that other NFL general managers know this and aren’t going to fall for it -- unless of course, the shoe is on the other foot, and it’s Washington’s front office considering such a move.
3. I keep reading how everything Jason Campbell did at Auburn means nothing because he had two good running backs behind him. If that’s the case, what could we expect out of Campbell if Clinton Portis and Ladell Betts are his running backs here?
4. Regarding thought #3: Don’t get me wrong. It would be ridiculous to select Campbell with three quarterbacks already on the roster. The only way it would make any sense is if there’s a way to get rid of that waste of space Mark Brunell. And according to cap figures I’ve heard, it ain’t happening. Not only that, Gibbs doesn’t have time for a project at QB right now.

picking campbell would be great move bc now ramsey has to perform. and campbell has mroe legs, bigger college, more finesse on the deep ball, and over 60% CP career (while throwing all those deep balls) and last...looks to be a QUIET GET THE JOB DONE GUY...now tell me why that would be a bad pick...dump hasslebeck...move brunell to third string and dump after june 1 in 06.. and last, who cares about gibbs having to breed a qb...the redskins still have a future no matter what happens...why couldnt coach williams take over after gibbs and hire a good OC?? campbell would be a good pick IMO
