Alfred Morris is not running the ball enough....that's a large negative......he's just averaging 4.0 yards a carry......there's not enough talent along the o line.
Amen. It doesn't take a genius to know that a) you run the ball and b) you run it anywhere but behind Chesty and Plumpy.

From CSN Washington:
"RT Tyler Polumbus has given up seven of the team’s nine sacks and a third of the QB hurries the team has been charged with."
So, it looks like we're not blowing up the RT problem out of proportion after all. We can all plainly see that Morgan Moses isn't ready but why not give Tom Compton a shot at the job?
Poor play needs to become unacceptable on the Redskins team. You play poorly over time and you lose your job.

Unfortunately Redskins park is a place you pick up a check not earn it. If the owner isn't accountable the players certainly won't be.

the problem on D is pretty straight forward imo. we are idiots.
we heavily invested in pass rush at the expense of the secondary. we went all in on the pass rush banking on the fact that it would cover up our secondary deficiencies.
sans the jags game, every QB has posted a QBR above 100 on us and I dont think offensive coordinators are having much trouble dissecting haslett's schemes and tendencies.
$21.6 mil = avg NFL team salary for DL
$26.5 = redskins salary
$15 mil = avg NFL team salary for LB
$23 = redskins salary
$12.3 mil = nfl avg for corners
$7.8 = redskins corners (highest cap hit is tracy porter at 2.8)
$8.2 mil = nfl avg for safeties
$3.7 = redskins (highest merriweather at 1)

Safety is the only secondary position I really care about. Corners, especially with the current rules, get paid way too much for a position in which they are counted on for maybe 10 out of 60 plays.
Virtually every top Super Bowl level defense the past decade or so has had a strong pass rush, some with average at best talent at corner (Giants and Steelers). In fact the only corner that I would say was really worthy of the praise they got this past decade was Charles Woodson during Green Bay's Super Bowl run. The Seahawks secondary gets a lot of attention but in truth the pass rush is likely making a lot of those guys look better than they are.
I can't totally blame them for the lack of safety as safety talent these past couple of years has been difficult to find for all 32 teams.

good point about corners, i mostly agree that a pass rush is a lot more important than corners. (assuming the pass rush actually gets there)
i can totally blame the FO for the safety failures thoo. our FO has put together the least talented safety tandem and corners of all 32 teams. the result is opposing QBs are feasting on us (minus henne).

I guess I'm fine with building inside out--first the front 7, then the DBs. I do think we are better this year with the front 7. Maybe next year, out from cap penalties and the RGIII trade we'll get some serious DBs, especially safety. I actually think Amerson (sp?) is quite good. Wish Phillips could get on the field.
About Haz: meh. I don't think he's very good, but he clearly doesn't have all that much talent to work with. Hard to blitz with a shitty secondary, IMO. And the blitz is the heart of what he does. That's not to give him a free pass, but I'm not sure how firing him is going to change personnel trouble this season. Let him ride it down and get a new guy and some new bodies next season.
The O-line remains the saddest thing about this team. Could you imagine if RGIII (or whoever) had time to throw on a regular basis? WIth these WRs/TEs? Oy.

Those Dline numbers are a bit inflated. We have Cofield and Bowen injured and I believe those two make up 14mil or so of that 26mil figure.
To put it this way, if the front office doesn't spend the 14mil from the Bowen and Cofield contracts and the 11.9mil from the Rak contract next year to shore up some problems in the secondary and along the line then they are a bunch of morons. That is at minimum 25 million to play with on the defensive side of the ball.

This. We have a few important pieces to creating an unstoppable offense. Just need some protection and the offensive side of the ball will be able to score a ton.
If we had Djax, Roberts and Reed during RG III rookie season his numbers and our wins would have been huge.

A positive? Will Compton in place of Riley. We may have a jack that can actually cover now.

No doubt an oline helps but do we have a QB? Most of Cousins int's werent due to pass pro they were due to him. I sure as hell hope Griff has what it takes and stays healthy but only time will tell.
