JoeRedskin 09-23-2014, 01:09 PM Please tell me who is "scoffing" at RGIII blowing out his knee while trying to win. Is it just some amorphous "they" who are doing this scoffing? Are you asserting someone on this board is "scoffing"? Do you know what "to scoff" means? Oh wait ... it's you G84C - facts, definitions and rationality don't apply. Sorry. Move along everyone. over the mountain 09-23-2014, 01:09 PM Rg3 sacrificed for the team his knee. Fans scoff at that. I don't get it. your right. i shouldnt scoff at that. I love RG3. my defense of the shannys shouldnt diminish what RG3 did for us and will do for us in the future. but i did do that here and your right, that isnt right. credit goes to both of them equally imo for 2012. edit - joe just saw your reply, i changed his post from RG3 to shannys so, in that particular instance, i did do some implied scoffing. im a scoffer. Amen Gary84Clark 09-23-2014, 01:15 PM Maybe Cousins does not have the hunger to win? Gary84Clark 09-23-2014, 01:16 PM Amen Why should a fan be rational on a fan site? Ruhskins 09-23-2014, 01:17 PM yeah, they have to do something about that. a QB cant be protected but still eligible to make a tackle. Article 9 It is a foul if a player initiates unnecessary contact against a player who is in a defenseless posture. (a) Players in a defenseless posture are: OFFICIAL NFL PLAYING RULES 73(1) A player in the act of or just after throwing a pass; (2) A receiver attempting to catch a pass; or who has completed a catch and has not had time to protect himself or has not clearly become a runner. If the receiver/runner is capable of avoiding or warding off the impending contact of an opponent, he is no longer a defenseless player; (3) A runner already in the grasp of a tackler and whose forward progress has been stopped; (4) A kickoff or punt returner attempting to field a kick in the air; (5) A player on the ground at the end of a play; (6) A kicker/punter during the kick or during the return; (7) A quarterback at any time after a change of possession, and (8) A player who receives a “blindside” block when the blocker is moving toward his own endline and approaches the opponent from behind or from the side. (b) Prohibited contact against a player who is in a defenseless posture is: (1) Forcibly hitting the defenseless player’s head or neck area with the helmet, facemask, forearm, or shoulder, regardless of whether the defensive player also uses his arms to tackle the defenseless player by encircling or grasping him; and (2) Lowering the head and making forcible contact with the top/crown or forehead/”hairline” parts of the helmet against any part of the defenseless player’s body. Note: The provisions of (2) do not prohibit incidental contact by the mask or helmet in the course of a conventional tackle on an opponent. Penalty: For unnecessary roughness: Loss of 15 yards. The player may be disqualified if the action is judged by the official(s) to be flagrant. http://www.nfl.com/static/content/public/image/rulebook/pdfs/15_Rule12_Player_Conduct.pdf above is complete rule on Player Conduct (blocking, tackling, personal fouls etc.) Why The Hit On Nick Foles Is Absolutely A Dirty Play - Business Insider (http://www.businessinsider.com/nick-foles-hit-ejection-2014-9) above is a decent write up of the play ----------------------- the question comes down to "was baker's contact unnecessary"? foles was within 5 yards of an active play, the play was live and he was moving toward engaging the play. baker hit him in the front and below his neck area. i still think it is PF every time just bc of the culture of protecting QBs. even if you are technically within the rules, the interpretation will always be to protect the QB. every single time. I think it should've been called a PF, but Baker should have been ejected. I feel the only reason he was ejected was because of Peter. If the NFL wants to protect QBs, then they should amend this rule to prevent QBs from tackling a ball carrier. Otherwise, QBs should be treated just like any other player. This is football not rocket science. punch it in 09-23-2014, 01:20 PM Why should a fan be rational on a fan site? They should. Problem is that "fans scoff at RG-3 sacrificing his knee for the team", aint rational. If you want to say that fans scoff at Shanny for leaving him in the game than have at it. Though Im not sure why we would possibly be going there two years later. If any "fan" ever scoffed at RG-3 for doing so than they are not a fan...they are an idiot. |
