KI Skins Fan 09-20-2014, 09:05 AM I was hoping for the coaches to help KC out there and just run Helu up the middle and take the 3 points to end the half. There really wasn't enough time there for a TD and I think Gruden got greedy there. But you're right, KC needed to know the situation and not taken a sack and just thrown it away. In a tighter game that could've come back to haunt them.
Good point. I was expecting the run to position the FG attempt. I was thinking that Jay Gruden would consider Cousins' lack of experience in those situations and not put him in a position to make a mistake.
Somehow, I have a gut feeling that Jay isn't going to back off one bit even though he has a young QB running the show. But what do I know?

Spot on.
Also, if we had a kicker with a strong leg (55 yard field goal), we could have risen above that error.
calia 09-20-2014, 12:23 PM It's way too early to tell if Cousins is the answer. But on paper -- our team is actually pretty good, and we can theoretically have a chance at playoffs and beyond. We have a top 5 running back / running game, two probowl WRs (and decent WR depth), a top-tier TE, and currently our defense looks legit against inferior talent.
We were just lacking good QB play -- to get the ball into our playmakers' hands. IF we have that, I see no reason for us to contend, and THIS year. We're not the Seahawks/Denver/Patriots, but we can certainly go far in our division.. All depends on Cousins, but if he plays just average, it shouldn't be hard to do okay this year.
Not even mentioning our improved return game, our Oline backups who could challenge starters (Moses/S.Long), Merriweather's return, Cofield coming back, ?P.Thomas, etc.
Also got to hand it to Gruden so far. Early to tell, but early take on his decisions to date have been pretty good. (1) Keep Cousins & also McCoy, (2) NOT drafting MLB but relying on K.Robinson instead, (3) Keeping Haslett (so far so good), (4) FA: Hatcher/Djax/A.Roberts - all good so far with reasonable cap hits, (5) FA - avoiding big splashes & getting depth like A.Davis / etc on special teams & R.Clark as a leader so far, (6) Tress Way, (7) Drafting R.Grant (and Murphy, Breeland & Moses may prove to be good pickups)... It just seems like with our injuries, our depth is good enough to keep us in contention, and prior years we sucked if one or two people went out.
Got to agree with the last paragraph. Obviously, it is still early, but early indications are good for all of these decisions.
REDSKINS4ever 09-20-2014, 01:30 PM I have hopes that Cousins plays well......I think back to that Cleveland Browns game two years ago....he was sharp....but his three game audition last year showed that he was okay but not good.....hopefully the difference between this year and last year is coaching....Gruden and his staff will be able to get more out Cousins than the Shanahans did....
Dirtbag59 09-20-2014, 09:03 PM I will say this for people that might be a little too eager to discard RG3. Last year Josh McCown outplayed Cutler in Chicago. Granted its still early in the season but right now Cutler is looking like a top 10 QB while McCown has struggled to say the least. Point being, patience is a virtue.
vir·tue
ˈvərCHo͞o/Submit
noun
1.
behavior showing high moral standards.
Wait, thats what virtue means? I thought it meant an attribute that contributes to awesomeness.
Bishop Hammer 09-20-2014, 10:11 PM I couldn't have said it better myself... I was a huge RGIII believer, and I would still be if he could stay healthy, but he can't... RGIII might have a higher ceiling than Kirk, but how long is it going to take for him to get there? And more importantly, can he stay healthy long enough to get there even if he can? I see the type of success Luck and Wilson are having, and I can't justify simply drinking the Kool Aid blind anymore... I am still a RGIII fan, but I am a bigger fan of the Redskins... If Captain Kirk has success while RGIII is out, which I think he will, we would be damn stupid to trade him and bank of III staying healthy and reaching his ceiling, how ever high that might be...
Steadily good beats unrealized potential in my book. Truth be told who really knows what Cousins ceiling is, really? Sure Griffin is more athletic and faster but that is not all a quarterback makes. Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Drew Breeds don't have those qualities but they have decent careers and their stats aren't too shabby. :-)
I'm by no means saying Big Cous will play as well as those three, just that the jury isn't out on him yet. I'm going to wait and go by how he plays THIS season, then go from there.
tshile 09-21-2014, 09:17 AM ... but i did quote the top paragraph bc this is the 2nd time i have heard RG3 does well with pre-snap reads and cousins needs to improve. when i see cousins, i see him calling out the mike and being a lot more vocal at the line pre-snap vs RG3 who seems to never shift protection and seems oblivious (sometimes) to clear blitzes.
the biggest bs myth about griffin is that he can't read defenses, either pre-snap or during the play.
calia 09-21-2014, 12:55 PM Any truth to the reports that RGIII might be back in 5-6 weeks - ie, before the bye? Seems awfully fast for that injury. I hope we have learned the lesson about getting him on the field before he is 100%.
CRedskinsRule 09-21-2014, 01:02 PM Only way is if KC is losing even then seems crazy

it's speculation, though i believe that's the number Gruden gave as a guess.
he's in a cast for 10 days then they reevaluate, anything before that is just a guess based on how other people have recovered from the injury. my understanding is that there's a wide range for this injury. there's no fracture so it comes down to ligament damage and i assume pain tolerance.
