Hell of a stop by Denver though.
One of the few times I can imagine a QB cursing the policy of protecting QB's. Luck looked pissed afterwards that the play was called dead when it was.

Drew Brees was actually labeled a borderline bust for 90% of the time he was in San Diego. He didn't take off until he hooked up with Sean Payton in New Orleans.
He wasn't the Drew Brees that we know now, but he still showed potential, led them to a 12-4 record one year, made the pro bowl, and had a passer ratting over 100. They just went with Rivers because they had drafted him the year Brees started to take off.

Drew Brees had become a liability due to his shoulder injury, if I remember correctly. I think this is the reason Miami didn't pick him and they went with Culpepper.

That was the start of his accessension. He also had a pretty solid year in 2005 but had that rotator cuff injury in the final game of the season.
Chargers decided they needed to cash in on the Rivers pick and figured the torn rotator cuff of Brees was the perfect excuse to move into the Phillip Rivers/Charlie Whitehurst era.
That offseason the Saints and Dolphins were the only two teams that were serious about pursuing him coming off the injury. If I remember correctly Brees was serious about being paid
Dolphins got scared off during their evaluation of Brees by team doctors and basically ended up saying 'screw this, we can just give the Vikings a second round pick and get Daunte Culpepper.' (....aho... aho... Ahouka!!!!) (http://youtu.be/XjEC_DGF4wU)
Saints QB Drew Brees: Dolphins passed on me in 2006 because they didn’t think I could play again (http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/sports/football/saints-qb-drew-brees-dolphins-passed-on-me-in-2006/nZ8Wm/)
And that kids is why Nick Saban (AHO!!) is considered a hero among Patriot, Jet, and Bill fans.
When a silly or idiotic character says something stupid or foolish, one or more crows may be seen flying past, crying "aho! aho!" or "ba-ka, ba-ka". Aho is Japanese for "idiot". It's also the kansai-ben equivalent to the all-purpose insult baka (one functional translation of aho is "idiot");

That's why I said 90%, he looked pretty good in 2005, but nothing to write home about.

It should have been called dead because if they had stripped the ball, they'd be arguing that forward progress had stopped. They are always going to stop that play because 1) It's a QB.....and 2) It's a QB.

I think they'd call that dead if it was a RB or WR.
