You can say that about any game or any practice they are involved in. Injuries are going to happen regardless.
Correct.
But it becomes a risk/ reward scenario.
It is too risky to play RGIII in a meaningless pre-season game with the reward of a few more snaps for him in live action before the regular season.
Obviously I changed my tune from this morning.

Q: How bad do we fans think the right side of our OL is?
A: It's so bad that we're actually talking about signing Richie Incognito.

I wouldn't want to risk anyone to injury at this point. Especially playing against scrubs, I don't see where the benefit outweighs the risk. It's not like practice reps don't count.
yeah, that's valid. i've been one of the ones preaching that our starters need more time in preseason because i watch teams coming off successful seasons getting much more work than us - including the seahawks.
but it's hard to justify putting them against scrubs in week 4, players that are going all out to try to make an impression and land a job somewhere if not for their current team.
it's hard to find a happy medium. i would have preferred our starters received more work in week 2 and week 3.
Here's just some (projected) starters that got more attempts in this preseason than Griffin (who had 20):
Newton - 21
Brandford -21
Kaepernick - 22
Mathew Stafford - 30
Tom Brady - 31
Geno Smith - 33
Aaron Rodgers - 33
Andy Dalton - 34
Matt Ryan - 37
Ben Rapelsberger - 37
Eli Manning - 37
Russell Wilson - 39
Ryan Tannehill - 41
Andrew Luck - 41
Jay Cutler - 42
Ryan Fitzpatrick - 43
Joe Flacco - 45
Petyon manning - 54 (lol?)
There are quite a few super bowl winning QB's getting a lot more reps than our guy. I hope Gruden's some mastermind or something, because our guy isn't getting anywhere near the number of reps as many of the other QB's that are among the best playing right now.

Incognito would upgrade our first team but also keep Long on the bench. If we think we can make Long into a capable starter sooner rather than later, we don't want Incognito.

Judging how our 1st team offense played this pre-season, they should all be playing. It's obvious they need the work.
It's preseason, remember Beck?

Unless he has changed dramatically, I doubt that Incognito would be a good employee for any business. Pass.

I think Gruden would be absolutely hammered by the media and fans as a 1 year coach if RG3 got injured in the preseason because he played him so much. However, he does need the reps badly. I also don't get the whole thing around the league where coaches don't run their offenses in the preseason. The players need practice! I think that outweighs the element of surprise for one game.

I dont think coaches really view it as saving your playbook for the regular season. What they want is to force players to win while not in the best position to do so. Nothing fancy, just go out there and beat your guy one on one. If you cant but someone else can, then that other person should make the team over you. Once the games count, then gameplan with the intention of putting your players in the best possible situation to succeed.
If you really want to know Grudens offense, then study the Bengals the last few years. If you are worried that Gruden will incorporate the read option, then study RG3 from 2 years ago. Its not like teams have 50 plays hidden that no one has ever seen before only to come up with 50 more the following year.

The right side of our line is bad. However, RG3 can help things out if he gets the ball out on time. If he doesn't then he's going to get sacked...a lot.

The right side of our line right now is not giving RG3 any time to throw.
