From what I'm hearing... he's due a large roster bonus soon and it may actually be a good financial decision to dump him if he's not improving physically.
Do you understand the cap at all? There is no way this is even remotely under any circumstances possible. I am not even going to work the numbers up because I know what they'll say. His cap number would accelerate to this year and be like 10 million. That is not going to happen. If he died in a car accident tomorrow they'd probably have to carry him on the roster simply for cap reasons(j/k..i am sure there is a provision in the cba for something like that. just making a point.) He is not going anywhere.
And everyone who is jumping down his throat..
While I would agree the sentiments probably aren't the most beneficial in history he didn't come out and say specific things about specific people. The only person mentioned was Gibbs and how he hasn't ben able to build a relationship with him yet. Not exactly earth shattering. His venom seems more directed toward the organization and he was seemingly being driven by a frustration over the lack of progress in his recovery. This emotion is what makes him a good player(and sometimes a reckless player too). This will all blow over.
I do wish they would just handle this contract issue. Actually I wish Lavar would wisen up and realize this is the agent's fault and can his ass. I really wish the NFLPA would step in and tell Lavar he's SOL since his agent sucked. I mean why in the world would the Skins try to screw him out of money...it doesn't even make sense. If anythign there was either miscommunication or at worse they accidently left it out. Of course that is why you are supposed to READ a contract before you sign it. I guess that fact is lost. These players rely far too much on their agents. They treat them like parents or something. Grow up and make decisions for yourself with guidance from the agents. Don't let them decide for you.

I have never questioned LA intensity or desire. What I do question is his blaming the redskins for rushing him back to the field when exactly the opposite is true. My problem with LA is that any problems involving him are always someone else's fault, the team rushed me back, the team screwed me out of $, I'm too constrained by the scheme, etc.. He cries wolf so often its hard to take any of his concerns seriously.

Lavar was just emotional.....no big deal. He's not going anywhere, and I'm sure Gibbs already has this issue resolved.

He has no reason to complain, just think of the millions he is raking in from his amazing Easterns Motors commercial. Hahaha.

Do you understand the cap at all?

Yes, I do. Do you?
I understand that giving a player a $6.5 mil roster bonus is stupid if he's not going to be on the field.

Current Contract: 8 years, $68 million, $20 million total bonus. Includes a $15.5 million bonus allocated as a $4.2 million signing bonus in 2003 and an $11.3 million option bonus in 2004. Roster bonuses from 2006-2011 as follows:
2006: $6.5 million; 2007: $2.05 million; 2008: $3.15 million; 2009: $3.8 million; 2010: $5.4 million; 2011: $6 million.
Remaining prorated bonus from original contract counts approximately $2.62 million each season from 2004-2006.
Base Salaries: 2004: $535K; 2005: $540K; 2006: $545K; 2007: $2 million; 2008: $3.5 million; 2009: $3.5 million; 2010: $6 million; 2011: $7 million.

The current release fee for lavar is over $18 mil. Do you not understand that the whole bonus accelerates if you cut a player? That would put us more than $16 mil over the cap if we cut him now.

I realize that we can't drop him now... but next year it might make sense rather than paying that roster bonus.

Next year his release fee is over $13mil. We are already going to be around $10 mil over the cap and his salary is only around 500k in 2006. So that's a $12.5 mil hit on top of the $10 mil we're already going to be over. Still doesn't make sense. If for some reason he stays injured and can't play, he would likely be cut in 2007 after we clear the giant cap hurdle next year.

Now, if there's an uncapped year... :)

Actually, because of that bonus, he'll only cost us an extra ~2.5mil if we cut him next year. I still think it won't happen because everything done next offseason will be figureing out how to get back under the cap.

I thought next years cap was looking okay since Coles cap accelerated.
