(rumor) lavar on crutches again after another surgeryrickmmrr 04-11-2005, 09:45 PM I think he really wants to play and that's a good thing. but wining about no media attention is stupid. MTK 04-11-2005, 10:05 PM Gibbs is supposed to have a press conference on Tues, probably to squash this ridiculousness MTK 04-11-2005, 10:09 PM A little bit of Gibbs' side of this: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2035032 Asked to comment on Arrington's remarks, Gibbs told The Associated Press that he's "always erred on the side of conservative" with Arrington. "LaVar got mad at me last year because he said I was too conservative," Gibbs told the AP. "He wanted to play." As for Arrington's claim that the three-time Pro Bowl linebacker didn't have the support of the coaching staff, Gibbs said Arrington was upset when making those comments because of the need to have the second surgery. "LaVar was emotional and said some things," Gibbs said. "But LaVar knows that we've been conservative with him." Gibbs said Arrington's second surgery was needed after some setbacks during recent offseason workouts at Redskins Park. Gibbs said Arrington had some "floating bodies" removed from the knee and also had some scar tissue trimmed. Gibbs said the doctor feels Arrington will be fine by the time the season starts in September, but that the team will be "careful and cautious" with Arrington's rehabilitation for a couple of months. Gibbs said he and Arrington spoke on the telephone for about 45 minutes Monday evening, but that Arrington did not repeat many of the concerns the linebacker had aired publicly only a few hours earlier. He said another meeting with Arrington is scheduled for Tuesday to "go over everything from A to Z" concerning Arrington's rehabilitation. JWsleep 04-11-2005, 10:25 PM Gibbs puts out another fire. Wow. Let's kiss and make up, please. And we need Lavar healthy and happy, especially now that Pierce is gone. Ack. Funny how it's yet another negative thing from the Post. Not that they made Lavar say anything, I'm sure (he's said some weird stuff in the past, no doubt...), but I wonder if Gibbs is ever going to speak to them again, after this offseason! Every time he opens up the Post, Damasio or Jason what's-his-name is spilling the beans on some in-house trouble. And Tony Stewart's friggin wheel fell off during the race sunday. Tough week. JWsleep 04-11-2005, 10:29 PM And check out the skins.com article that instantly popped up. We love you Lavar! Go easy, big fella! (Maybe we'll trade him to the Jets for Vilma?) J/K!!!! skinsguy 04-11-2005, 10:36 PM Well, I feel a little bit better about the situation. I also felt Lavar was just venting alot of frustration with this setback. I can understand his frustration, but sometimes it's better to vent to someone else besides the media. Hopefully, Gibbs will talk with Arrington and put things back in perspective for him. We do need Arrington healthy and ready to play for us this year, and I feel when he is able to get out there and start playing football, he'll look back on this and probably laugh about it! :-) TheMalcolmConnection 04-11-2005, 10:45 PM Seriously, people turned on LaVar damn quick before knowing the facts. Taylor is already wanting a new contract and no one is ready to crucify him yet (not saying we should, but let's give people a break before we know the facts). CooleyAsCanBe 04-11-2005, 11:00 PM The Post article (or should I say block quote) was hilarious. You could almost visualize Lavar breathing hard and getting worked up. Several times he is talking himself down and trying to calm down. I've been in situations like that. Pissed off and spouting whatever coems to mind. I sure am glad no one is following me with a tape recorder. I agree with Gibbs, he'll be fine by tomorrow. This is a blip. Anyone else notice they have already updated the Post article to include some more balanced info from Gibbs and the doctor? I guess they just wanted the scoop and are now cleaning up the mess. BigSKINBauer 04-11-2005, 11:16 PM ive always been in the minority of wanting to draft DJ and i think this just makes my case stronger. hes an amazing player and will make a huge impact in the NFL. minority, well i guess i was part of it i just felt there was absolutly positively no way but now..... possibly. I mean we are blessed at olb and we don't need to add positions we don't need. I always liked him and he says that his favorite players are lavar and Lewis, many have compared him to lavar. If lavar can't play then sure go get him but if lavar can why add more to what we have expecially when lavar and marcus got good years left. that is why we tackle the cb. wow it is oin fox news right now! they said gibbs has a press conference tommorow to address the issue 81forHOF 04-11-2005, 11:17 PM If anyone thinks this is about anything other than the 6.8 million Lavar claims Snyder ripped him off, they are kidding themselves! I remember reading the article last year when he made his claims and knew right then that things were never going to be the same with Lavar. The fact of the matter is that Lavar's agent handed him a contract and told him he went over it and it was everything that they had asked for, after signing Lavar realized the 6.8 million bonus wasn't included. If he has a problem with anyone it should be his agent! Here's my take on the situation: Lavar decides to have a minor knee scope, which could have waited, during the season just to spite Snyder. He had no intentions whatsoever of playing last year until he saw how well the Defense was playing without him and got worried. Now he is blowing up over a routine follow up surgery because nobody ran to hold his hand. He's just pissed that his grievance hearing was postponed. If 68 million is not enough to make you feel loved what the hell is it going to take? Another 6.8 mil is what! And if any teammate didn't hear about his surgery last year they must be living in a cave! You are right about the Post putting a negative twist on everything, tho. They are mad that the Skins revoked 120 season ticket packages from them because the were scalping them. Now they have to buy their tickets like everybody else. Boo Hoo! So maybe I should give Lavar the benefit of the doubt, a person easily can be quoted to come off sounding anyway the writer wishes, but it sure sounds like that they didn't have to put much of a twist on those words. If Lavar thinks that any self respecting Redskins fan is going to take his side over Coach Gibbs he needs to stop kidding himself. If this soap opera is going to become a distraction we need to shop him around. Recent surgery or no, someone will be willing to take him off our hands because he is such a monster player. I really wish we had resigned Antonio. |
