It's slightly offensive and that's all it takes. Change the name and keep the logo. How about The Washington Warriors? Just as the Cleveland Indians logo is slightly offensive (we would be in the midst of a civil war if the face of the logo was black) they should change the logo and keep the name. If you don't have a problem with it as it is, you shouldn't have a problem if it's changed. Just like the GEICO commercial, "... so easy, even a caveman could use it." Now try replacing the word 'caveman' for Jew, black man, or even woman. Not cool, huh? :oink:

if im not mistaken its the logo thats most offensive. The symbol on our helmet was used in trading posts to signify that that trading post sold skinned indian heads. Which is pretty offensive.

I haven't read where the logo is most offensive, but if what you say is true, I can understand.....if that was the case...then just change the logo back to the spear and feather that they used decades ago....

When your the Majority of course it doesn't matter, but when your the Minority, then Identy is very important, I love the Redskins too....but If they had a picture of a Blackman on a helment, and said....the Washington Blackskins, who out there think that Black Americans, wouldn't be offended.....so show some sensitivity to these people were not trying to beat them in the ground.....I say Spear and Feather is fine with me....or like one man said in hear set up a fund or scholarship to show we at least care........if someone came up to me and said hey Blackface....two in the forehead.....boom

all bullshit and jokes aside, if it is so offensive, then change it. We've all seen names changed for dumber reasons (Wizards). If it offends 1 or 1 billion it's still offensive and in some instances considered racist.

I think Chris Rock said it best with "its like if we changed the name of the New York Giants to the New York Niggers" its totaly offensive and derogatory to the members of the native american nation. I'm black and I can understand when people want understanding and they get lude and obnoxious comments from fans and staff alike.

DJnemo65:

Are you really THAT upset over our team moniker, or are you just trying to be politically correct? To me, it seems logical to think if you are a fan of this team and have pulled for them over the years, then the name "Redskins" must not be that offensive to you. I mean, it's kind of like saying drinking beer is completely wrong while you're holding a big 'ol can of Miller lite in your hand!

Until my research proves otherwise, this is an activist issue not a majority issue. There are so many other things in this world to be concerned with than a football name.

You aren't really paying attention to what I'm saying. Yes I love the skins and haven't boycotted them because of their name (although I did point out in an earlier post that this is because they play in Washington, not because of their moniker). I have never suggested that the name offends me. It really doesn't matter what I think. Instead, I'm just arguing that those of us positioned outside of that culture should try and be a little more sensitive towards the viewpoints of those within it who are offended. When people make arguments for Native Americans as to why they shouldn't be offended by the name, that is what bothers me. I mean, if all we are talking about is a freaking sports team's name, why not try and accomodate those who claim to be offended by its mascot, even if we maybe don't agree with their grounds for taking offense? I just don't see what the big deal is.

djnemo65, I agree I just think most people in here think that some people should be happy they are not calling them worse....I don't want to affend anyone, just like I wouldn't want to be offended, it wasn't until about 5 years ago, I start hearing that Native Americans thought that was offensive and when they gave there reason, I said well if they feel that way I'm not going to argue with them....I'm Skin's fan....I wish we could work something out with them.....if your not senstive to their situation, then you just support the side that says call anybody anthing you want....this is not about beer bottles, and what people do and don't do....this about respecting a race and their feelings......BOTTOM LINE
