U.S. Patent office cancels Redskins trademark registration, says name is disparaging - The Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/us-patent-office-cancels-redskins-trademark-registration-says-name-is-disparaging/2014/06/18/e7737bb8-f6ee-11e3-8aa9-dad2ec039789_story.html)
Will probably still be years in the courts with appeals and such. So its still not a done deal, but the fight will get more interesting now.

Fight definitely not over yet, but this isn't a good sign for us.

Yeah, this is a potential game changer. No way the team or NFL allows an untrademarked team name to exist. Way too much money that could be made without the NFL being able to do a thing about it. Nothing will happen immediately but I wouldn't be surprised to see a name change by 2017 at the latest.

To me it seems like this isn't worth fighting anymore. Snyder should just change the name and be done with it. We live in such a over sensitive society now. My goodness.

I think it's a stupid argument but I'm so sick of hearing about that I'd rather just change it and move on. Nice way for the opposition to win - default.

This is almost the place I've come to.
But giving up the name is giving up so much, for nothing in return. If we knew that the majority of Native Americans were offended and that by dropping the name we were improving people's lives, I could stomach it. But, no... we're dropping the name, and in turn, so much of the team's legacy, just because a few Native Americans are "offended". It makes me sick.

with the understanding that appeals could stretch this out who know's how long - the writing seems to be on the wall here.
