Blogger hired to defend Redskins name resigns - The Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/redskins/blogger-hired-to-defend-redskins-name-resigns/2014/07/08/133f721e-06b3-11e4-9a71-264773a2ffc8_story.html)

I love the sentence in this article that says, "Redskins owner Dan Snyder has vowed not to change the name but is facing unprecedented opposition from those who consider it a racial slur."

What it should have said is that Snyder is facing unprececedented opposition from the "smallest of minorities of people in the country" who consider it a racial slur. But "unprececedented opposition" sounds more powerful.

The propaganda on this just continues to be amazing to me.

i would consider that letter signed by a bunch of US Senators to be fairly significant and unprecedented.

throw in the tv ad during the nba finals .....

the federal court cancelling the redskins trademark on a finding that it is derogatory is kinda a big deal to imo

maybe im just nitpicking or having a selective memory .. but i dont think that one sentence from the journalist was unsupported or unfounded.

ps - i just dont give a sh%t about this issue anymore. if it changes - fine. if it doesnt - even better. i do find myself annoyed at anyone beating the war drum at either end of the spectrum. just an exercise in futility.

Ok, a bunch of Senators (maybe 40-45?) who honestly should have nothing to do with this issue, a Federal court cancels the trademark after never receiving one complaint to their office (as per a recent Washington Times article), a TV ad, and a hundred maybe a few thousand media types, VERSES the hundreds of thousands of people that say don't change the name. I don't really find that unprecedented. I find it just amazing how such a small minority of people can continue to make this news worthy.

To be clear, a court did not cancel the trademark. The Patent & Trademark Office did. The PTO's decision will be challenged in court where it lost on this issue previously. The PTO is part of the executive branch, not the judicial.

Exactly! The federal court, more than likely, will be the one to overturn the ruling, yet again.

I think the funny thing (at least in my mind) is that the court document references a play in the future. "According to the Complaint, the Washington team deemed Green a "disruptive presence" in his team's prior win against the Washington Team on September 19, 2014"[source page 2 starting at line 10 of the complaint]

Yeah, I know it's a typo, but if you want to make a point of not using the Redskins name, at least don't make stupid typos in the factual background portion.
