This is ultimately a losing battle. They are losing in the media, losing in the general court of public opinion and now in the courtroom. There is no upside in prolonging a public battle where you end up just looking like an ass. Even if they win and are able to keep the name, the damage to the brand is constantly happening every time the story recycles. At some point the smart move is to make the move, put a spin on it like it's your idea/coming to your own conclusion and make a positive out of it.

Agreed. Regardless of who is "right," we look really bad by continuing to fight. Might as well cut our losses.

Woohoo! So glad this has happened. Another victory for justice and perseverance! The sooner we get this name changed the sooner we can get back to forgetting Native Americans exist!

Exactly! Just as I was having a heated discussion with a Redskins fan on another board, what I tried to tell him was that if the name is changed to something that does not relate to Native Americans at all (he doesn't want the new name to be associated with NA's) then Native Americans will continue to disappear from the public's eye. Which means, the government will continue to ignore their needs. Nobody who has argued for a name change has even remotely thought about the real issues Native American tribes deal with. That's what sucks. Attorneys and fat cats get richer, the poorer get poorer, and special interest groups continue to run the country. It's all pretty shameful.

Here's the story
Of a lovely lady
Who was bringing up three very lovely girls
All of them had hair of gold
Like their mother
The youngest one in curls

It's the story
Of a man named Brady
Who was busy with three boys of his own
They were four men
Living all together
Yet they were all alone

'Til the one day when the lady met this fellow
And they knew that it was much more than a hunch
That this group must somehow form a family
That's the way we all became the Brady bunch

The Brady bunch, the Brady bunch
That's the way we became the Brady bunch

Oh, and looking up the trademarks, I've noticed that names like the Washington Warriors and the Washington Bravehearts have been trademarked by a Philip Martin McCaulay. Anybody know how this cat is? I could go for either one of those names (or just go back to Braves), but it seems like if this guy has it trademarked, he'd probably want millions for the name. I looked up Washington Braves and don't see that name trademarked.

I think one of Snyder's neighbors trademarked one of those names.

I just worry about what lame name someone would come up with otherwise. I would be offended if they called themselves the Washington Generals. Do we really want to be associated with the basketball team that is punked by the Globetrotters all the time? The Washington Federals means a complete rebranding of colors, logos - a new identity. It's like putting the Redskins in witness protection.

I thought I remember hearing about that, but didn't know if that was a "good" thing for Snyder, or if his neighbor was doing this to keep Dan from choosing another Indian name? He also has Bravehearts trademarked as well. Seems like the last time someone looked this up, the trademark had expired, but it shows the trademark has been renewed and is live.
