with the understanding that appeals could stretch this out who know's how long - the writing seems to be on the wall here.
Yeah, if this holds up and the Redskins start losing money by the boatload since they no longer have the trademark, I expect a pretty quick resolution to this. It's a damn shame.
The game has only just begun.

Yea I give this a wait and see approach. Believe I read that this happened before in the 90's but was overturned. Personally I wouldn't want to see the name changed

It was fun while it lasted. Onto a new name. No doubt people in DC pressured these fools into doing this.

My understanding is similar things happened in '92 and '99. If that's the case, isn't there plenty of prior evidence on our side to fight the PTO? Doesn't the PTO have to prove something has changed with these trademarks to make them all of a sudden invalid due to being offensive? It seems as if this is more grandstanding by the PTO rather than anything that will be effective.
In case you couldn't tell, I'm not a lawyer..
If we do end up with a new name, I want us to be something completely different. I no longer want to bring attention to the native american community in any way, shape or form. Being as the D.C. area teams have a way of picking terrible names for teams, I'm worried.
Additionally, here is a link to the US PTO's decision: USPTO TTABVUE. Proceeding Number 92046185 (http://ttabvue.uspto.gov/ttabvue/v?pno=92046185&pty=CAN&eno=199)

Yes, there's still hope.

In 1999, the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board ruled that the name was disparaging and should be changed, but the Redskins were able to overturn that decision in federal court.

I hope he does but it just seems like such a headache at this point. Obama has even ran his mouth about it. SMH.

Its safe to say that this is the beginning of the end. I suspect the Skins and the NFL already have the team's new name and logo ready to launch when the time comes.
Some of you have way too much faith in the legal system to think this is anywhere near a quick resolution. They've been down this trademark road before.
