Ruhskins 05-28-2014, 03:45 PM Who? Name some of those great head coaches that didn't have exceptional resumes. Joe Gibbs, Bill Belichick of the world were exceptional before they became head coaches. John Harbaugh is one of the few college coaches that has succeeded in the NFL after being a college coach. I'm sure coming in he had a TON of doubters and naysayers because he was a college coach. Pete Carroll sucked as an NFL coach (ask any Pats fan) and I'm sure a lot of people had doubts about him coming back after being a successful college coach. Jim Harbaugh was a special teams coordinator from Philly. I don't think he had an "exceptional" resume and was pretty unknown. Jeff Fisher was a d-coordinator, who bounced around different teams before becoming head coach. I'm not saying he's super successful, but he's been around for a while as an NFL coach. Ruhskins 05-28-2014, 03:48 PM I remember when Josh McDaniels was highly touted as an excellent head coach candidate and was considered to have an "exceptional" (although short) career because he worked in Belichick's offense. Yet he went to Denver and drove that organization into the ground. Giantone 05-28-2014, 04:06 PM Who? Name some of those great head coaches that didn't have exceptional resumes. Madden, though, was exceptional...he helped the team reach the SB. Giantone 05-28-2014, 04:24 PM I'll give you Bill Parcells. Madden, though, was exceptional...he helped the team reach the SB. Look at your quote and then think about Madden again . over the mountain 05-28-2014, 04:39 PM Wasn't he the guy that helped the Vikings set NFL records with Carter, Moss and Culpepper? nope different dude saden1 05-28-2014, 04:54 PM Look at your quote and then think about Madden again . Madden was the LB Coach back in 1967 and helped the Raiders to 13-1 record and a SB appearance. He then took over as HC in 1968 at the age of 32. Parcells was a nobody before he got the job. I wouldn't have hired him and I certain would have fired him after his first season. The only redeeming quality he has is that he was able to learn on the job. There are exceptions to every rule, I just don't believe Jay Gruden has what it takes to be an exception and I would not take a chance on people who could be exceptional. Jay Gruden is a firm NO HIRE for me. donofriose 05-28-2014, 04:59 PM Who? Name some of those great head coaches that didn't have exceptional resumes.
