then SI reported this:

Report calls DeSean Jackson signing with Washington Redskins 'done deal' | Audibles - SI.com (http://nfl.si.com/2014/04/01/desean-jackson-redskins-rumors/?eref=sihp)

That is the leftover report from McManus from last night. SI is just picking it up late.

my gripe for the OL is that they didnt add a solid RT when there seemed to be a few guys avail for 3-5 mil per.

i guess you could put me in the crowd that thinks that if the skins arent going to save some money and transition 11% of the cap into next year, 8 mil per should have been spent on a FS and RT instead of a WR2.

in terms of team needs, FS and RT were my top 2 priorities and they have not been addressed at all.

either way im happy though. d jax or saving cap space will both benefit the team, just in different ways.

At RT, I get it and to an extent agree. An upgrade is necessary there and regardless of what happens with D. Jax, I expect one of our first two picks to be a RT with the expectation they become a starter in 2014. There were a lot of questions about the FA tackles (Collins-limited starts, Schwartz-position fit, Penn-position fit/swapping sides) that the FO clearly didn't see any of them as a clear and long term upgrade over Polumbus who has started 31 games over the past 2 years.

As for safety, two were drafted last year (with poor results from Rambo and injury Q's on Thomas now) plus we signed two vets in free agency. We're always screaming 'draft and develop, draft and develop' but then are outraged when a position of need isn't solved by a high priced free agent. Can't really have it both ways. We drafted, now lets see if they develop. Also expect this to be a draft priority, Jackson or not.

Alright, I need to see the link saying that he signed, and the ESPN Breaking News Report.

More than any other position group, the OL is about fit and chemistry. You threw a bunch of names out there and sure, they are attractive names but unless they all fit the scheme and profile Gruden is looking for, it could very well be wasted money. No team has an 'elite' offensive line anymore because it's not necessary. Have to have a good to very good OL to be successful. Our group can be good.

What grinds my gears around here is the notion that money/draft picks spent on another position was somehow stolen from the offensive line or that we've ignored that position group which is completely false.

You made some good points there; nice post.

And I'm not one that thinks the FO ignored the O-line, because they obviously didn't, but I guess I just don't like the fact that they're so willing to spend money at WR, but not O-line. It just doesn't seem right. But your points about chemistry and scheme fit are spot on.

I feel you. For O-linemen, drafting is a more effective way because you can pick the profile and then coach them to your scheme rather than trying to change a way someone's been doing things for their whole career and plus truly excellent linemen rarely make it to FA. Those guys available this year weren't 'just a guy' type players but by the same token, they weren't budding all pros either.

I'm pretty surprised it didn't get done yet, but I think that was more so because of taking care of some other things outside DeSean. Think we're in the home stretch now

We are all like first time dads in the waiting room. Too funny.

Except for the fact that I was in the delivery room, won't do that again.
