Shadowbyte 03-30-2014, 06:00 PM I would pass on desean, unless the money was skins friendly (which I doubt)
his addition would be a luxury, not a need.
im not so much worried about the off field stuff as i am with allocating too much money on receiver. even if his cap hit was 5-6 this year, id guess his average salary would be end up near 10 mil per. we have rg3, trent, rak, kerrigan to re-sign in the next few years.
Luxury? Who's this elite deep threat that you speak of that's currently on the Redskins roster? Desean is an Elite deep threat WR.... a game changing type of "play-maker" that we haven't had since Moss was in his prime. The Superbowl as you know goes through Seattle or either San Francisco, and we need every weapon we can get in order to become a Superbowl contender.
donofriose 03-30-2014, 06:04 PM I'm increasingly joining the bandwagon on this. These moves are always about the "IF"s. IF he doesn't get into trouble, IF he gets along with coach, IF he is motivated -- he'd be awesome for us. These high profile moves - if they work, they can make your franchise. If they fail, it takes 3-5 years to rebuild, salvage the salary cap, and get a new coach.
With DJax, we solve a major issue. I think you're more likely to get a very good safety, RT, MLB in the second round than a WR.
Also in a strange way -- if our offense finally starts scoring again, it can make opposing offenses one dimensional / pass-first. That could help our defense, & allow our D-line just rush the QB. Not sure how our secondary would respond. So ironically, by helping our offense -- there's a chance DJax could indirectly make our defense more effective.
That rarely ever works. Indy/NE/Denver tried it and they were bounced out the first round after finishing the season with the best regular season record.
I understand what you are saying but that is the recipe for winning regular season games, not championships.

Also need a defense like Seattle or San Fran.
Denver had plenty of weapons and one of the best QB's to ever play going against Seattle...

I agree...
I also think this frees up the draft to focus on Defense, Oline, and a speedy back.
skinsfan69 03-30-2014, 06:54 PM One of the best Redskin free agent picks ever was Gary Clark. USFL cast off from JMU. Petulant, abrasive, selfish, hard to deal with. That's why coaches are paid the big dollars. They need to know how to manage people. Gibbs was the master at it. If we sign Jackson hopefully Gruden can follow in those footsteps and bring the best out in Jackson.

While we do have to resign Trent, his salary is already high. This year his cap number is 11 mil and next year, its over 14 mil. We already have the cap space available to resign Trent built into his current cap numbers. In fact, we could resign Trent today, and have lower cap numbers this year and next. Orakpo is very similar with this year only, he is already counting over 11 mil. Its the other 2 that needs to be worried about.
mooby 03-30-2014, 07:27 PM I'm torn on this. On one hand, he would be a great asset on the field for our team. On the other, we aren't exactly the type of environment that allows a moody player with attitude issues to succeed. Way too many times that has burnt us in the past.
Idk, I guess I would sign him, but only for a team friendly contract that allows us to easily cut ties once his attitude becomes a distraction for the team. Usually when we mix our favorite team and those kinds of players, the question isn't if he'll mess something up, but when. I definitely wouldn't give him 10 million a year, but I would give him somewhere between 5-7 mil per. But seeing as how he'll have his pick of suitors, and given the fact that his "pay me" attitude is one in a long list of reasons why the Eagles cut him, I doubt we will be in the running for whatever team he picks. Only way I see us signing him is if he takes a smaller deal just to stick it to the Eagles twice a year.
OnceWeWereKings 03-30-2014, 07:28 PM Was it last year or the year before that DJ wouldnt speak with his oc? I forget...I do remember they had to have another player speak to the coach for him because he wouldnt.
To play devils advocate to my not wanting him...he is a legitimate threat, and in addition it would be nice to have the inside track on chip Kelly's offense. I like what he does on the field (when he wants to, but he can honestly act like one of those kids on my super sweet 16 party, or whatever). And im not saying anything about the gang talk..because, honestly, I could care less about that.
Regardless, though...if we do sign him..ill be hoping/rooting for triple digit yardage game in and game out from him, because my love for the skins trumps my dislike for DJ by light years.
HAIL!
12thMan 03-30-2014, 07:31 PM We should definitely sign him. No question about it. He's still relatively young, and when was the last time the Redskins had a bona-fide Pro-Bowl caliber WR? Do it.

I'm sorry but Gary was nothing like Jackson, Gary was arrogant but was a team player, didn't act selfish, was a serious competitor, Gibbs would have cut his ass. My best friend played hoops against Gary at JMU, almost got in a fight with him, off the court was cool, my buddy and roommate tutored Charles Haley.
