Surprised because he's performed well but if we're moving away from zone blocking, we do need new personnel.

Lichtensteiger should be good enough.

Monty helped us to launch a pretty potent running game over the last few years. Good luck to him.

I don't know what you mean. Kory is 285 lbs. Monty is 300 lbs. Is Kory considered to be better in pass protection?

I'm concerned that Kory might have a very difficult time with big NT's.

What's not to understand? I said I think Kory will be good enough...meaning we don't need to shop around. I do think Monty was better, but Lichtensteiger is probably better suited for center than guard anyway. Lets just move him back there and find some better guards. I guess this also opens the door for LeRibeus.

I'm with you. Kory is by far our smallest lineman. If bigger is better, we're keeping Kory only until we have found a replacement.

If we want bigger, there's always this from 2012:

Monty was a class act; I wish him well in the future. He gave it his all while a Redskin.

This is a mistake. Montgomery was above average in 2012, and if he were surrounded by decent guards, he'd still be a solid center. I would have rather signed a veteran center and had them compete for the starting spot, then drafted a center next year.

What doesn't make sense is that they released Montgomery before Lichtensteiger. Lichtensteiger! WTF? I suppose they could be planning on attempting to deal him to Cleveland; that's the only reason I can come up with.

Some very questionable decisions have been made thus far in Free Agency. Let's just say that my faith in this FO hasn't increased...at all.

Steiger can play, very mobile. And they're asking him to put on 10 pounds.

Whether you're running a zone or any kind of running scheme, your C needs to be a guy who is agile enough to get to the second level. Centers are not often the biggest on the line, it's just not a position where size is a huge issue.

Also, the C is rarely matched up one on one against a DT in a pass block situation. He will usually have the help from one of the Gs.
