The new CBA instituted a 4 year cash minimum(2013-2016,2017-2020). This article is a well written yet still mind boggling look at just how these numbers are arrived at, the impact on teams, and speaks to the Redskins specifically at one point. Not surprisingly we have a large deficit when looking at cash spending the last two years, which may lead to a few upfront money deals this year and next.

Wonder if the Redskins would be expected to make up the spending they couldn't during the implementation of the $36M penalty. They refrained from signing a few players last year because of it. Would the league then ask them to catch up on the spending this year and next?

Wouldn't seem right if they did. But it's probably a non-issue. We're looking to spend anyway, we'll clear the team minimum. Especially once we sign Trent and Kerrigan after next season, and possibly RGIII.

With the cash spend average at 89%, they'll clear it easily.
