He was a journeyman who failed to catch on with the Cardinals, Raiders, Lions and Panthers before hitting the jackpot throwing to Marshall/Jeffery/Bennett and handing off to Matt Forte.
Cousins and most other backups would thrive with those weapons too.
McCown had a great run this season but if some other team goes after him based on this season, they're going to be disappointed after they end up with another Matt Flynn.
The difference is McCown got good protection in the pocket and the Bears did an excellent job structuring the offense so it would work for and with him. And he did a great job hitting his open receivers, moving the ball and not making mistakes.
Cousins has not proven he could do any of that and the Redskins o-line can't protect anyone. In no way shape or form is he worth a second round pick but if someone wants to be a sucker and give up one for him then fine.

I thought it was because MCCown was mobile. The Bears o-line was an epic failure. That's why MCCown got so much playing time. The Bears were horrible at pass protection. Besides I thought Cousins was so good with his quick release.
How many times did Cousins get sacked in those 3 starts?

The sack numbers dropped when KC took over. It's very evident that Cousins gets the ball out faster and is quicker w/ his reads than Griffin is at this point. That's why RG3 was benched. He was holding the ball, not picking up blitzes and taking 5-6 sacks a game. I'm sure as time goes on RG3 will get better in that area. But this is why I hold on to KC. RG3 plays, w/ total disregard for his body, holds the ball, which risks himself to more hits and has questionable knees. Everyone is so obsessed about getting a draft pick instead of realizing that quality depth at the QB position is crucial to any teams success....or failure. If Rex Grossman has to play in Cleveland and Baltimore we don't win those games and don't win the division.

Bears O-line was a strength last year with the addition of Kyle Long and Bushrod. Their injury riddled defense is what killed them.

He played the Falcons, cowboys and giants without their starting d-linemen. He played against the worse defenses we faced all year and still there are a bunch of turnovers. Sacks are better than picks.

That was two seasons ago.....
And as Monkeydad pointed out the sacks went down but the picks went up and picks are worse than sacks.

yeah, i love the fact he is always willing to give his body up for the homerun play but it is a double edged sword.
i view the Kirk Cousins situation as pretty straightforward.
If we dont get a 2nd or a comparative package deal we keep him.

I'm not saying Cousins is Tom Brady. He made his share of mistakes. You also have to remember the game was called a lot different then when RG3 was in there. The play calling was a lot more aggressive so more turnovers are expected. I think as Cousins moves on his career he'll learn to throw more on time. His Ints were not because he's throwing into double coverage, or only looking at one guy. His issues seems to be he throws late and behind, very correctable.
