I think we're finished with free agency, if we were interested in any of these guys we would have made our move by now. So unless anybody interesting gets cut I think the only additions are coming through the draft.
I agree. The Skins don't wait on guys that are in free agency. If they want them, they are on them right away. Short of additional cuts, it's all on the draft now.

Last season there were horror stories in the Minneapolis/St. Paul papers about Hovan. Supposedly he "refused to practice" and had some run-ins with various coaches and did not play hard on defense. So the Vikes - whose defense was pretty miserable - deactivated him for a couple of games; they didn't even dress him out. And then he had a meeting with Tice where it was either get with the program or be suspended for the rest of the season by the team for what most people would call "insubordination".
Those stories may or may not be true; but when I read things like that, I get a very queasy feeling about signing that guy as a free agent. Yes, he played well a couple of years ago, but last year was a disaster on the field and in the locker room.
And remember, the Vikes put up with Randy Moss' nonsense for seven or eight years before that got to be too much for them and Hovan went deep into the doghouse in only a couple of years. That does not bode well.
I agree that some D-line help would be a good idea; but if I'm the Skins' GM, I'd be looking somewhere else...

:soapbox: yeaa ty law would be great but there's no way we could afford him.holdman and cb dyson would also be good if the contracts are decent and not cumbersom. the wr dyson, i don't know, sounds real brittle, we need to make
sound choices not wishful ones and maybe to a verteran minnimum contract with some incentives ok but no more.hovan might be cool if williams feels he would work and if the contract isn't out of line. otherwise consentrate on the drasft and possible trade and we can be thankful for the nfl channel:lol:

the only player i like there is andre dyson.
steadily improving young cb who did a great job as the no2 for the titans!! at this stage of free agency i cant seeing him being to expensive and in terms of the draft opens up a few more avenues for us to look at!
as for hovan just say no!!!!!

Okay...I did not know the extent of Hovan's issues. I knew he had a little baggage, but if all of what you say is true than I wouldn't touch him.

Hovan is trash. He wasn't even activated for the last 3-5 games. I would rather resign Haley then get him.

of the group you mentioned these are my thoughts..
kevin dyson is likely through in the nfl. signing him would mean giving up on mccants and jacobs. better to give them the opportunity to develop. also, if we are serious about taking a receiver high inthis draft, there is little or no purpose in taking dyson. it is just wasted money.
andre dyson is worth taking a look at. especially if the team is serious about going in another direction with the draft. the same thing about him is true inthat it would mean that the development of jimoh, brown and wilds is going to be stunted. it comes down to how much the staff feels the young trio can be counted on..
law... the only reason to sign him would be to a 1 year contract at vet min, tied to health/performance markers. he will simply never go for that contract because other teams will eventually pay him royally.
marques douglas... i would have thought the skins would be very interested in him as a fall back after losing brown. he played very well in spots over the past several years and should be coming into his own. he played at howard so there is a dc connection. still, the post said today that the front office has no apparent interest in him.
holdman.. the skins went after him last year or the year before when he signed with cleveland. it is just as well he signed elsewhere. he gives the team nothing that clemons, lemon, barnes and campbell cannot provide and would cost considerably more. develop the youngsters.
hovan... a mystery. a top 10 pick once. is it chemistry or is he just a loser?? is it frustration from playing on a bottom 10 defense or was he part of the reason? for sure he needs a change of address. maybe an invitation to camp to see how serious he is about getting in shape and playing??? clearly, nothing more than that. we have had enough of marginal character players. also, remember, his signing would likely cost a player like bosetti or possibly nic clemons a roster spot. is he really worth it? unlike brown, who was injured, there are character questions at the very least with hovan. also, does he really represent an upgrade over a rotation of noble, griffin, salave'a and bosetti? haley was considered expendable now. hovan is likely the same..
i think that covers them alll

I signed hovan in madden after i won the superbowl and brandon noble held out on me... (jeeze a guy gets 104 sacks in a season and he thinks hes god or something) and when i signed hovan he was nothing but grief. His morale sucked, then everyone elses morale sucked. I think hes got problems. He definately wasnt hugged enough as a child.

When you can't land a spot on the Vikings Defense, you know your career is over.
