Couldn't we, theoretically, release Polumbus if we sign Penn, and add another 2.0 million to our available cap?

If thats the case, I think a deal with Penn will definitely get done.

Cuts I would like to see happen

Chester - 2.7 mil added to cap space
Bowen - 1.98 mil added
Polumbus - 2.5 mil added
Golston - 1.01mil added

Yes correct, if we sign Penn I think Polumbus is as good as gone.

Shoot, chester AND bowen

I can see cutting them , but ............... shooting them seems unnecessary :)

Decent article by Rich Tandler that sums up why the rookies will need less then $500k of cap space to sign.

very strange, the day before Tandler said " they need to make a cut or 2 to make a semi-major signing "

I think the earlier statement was calculating for the # of FA's we need to sign, given the many holes we have. Since the draft picks only have a hit of 500K this yr, their # is basically insignificant to the overall cap picture. Some of the FA signings will be 1 yr deals probably close to 1M. If we want to compete for a "semi-major" signing on top of those, we probably need to free up some space with cuts. I'm probably Jerry Jones when it comes to cap space (I think I understand what I'm doing, but I really don't and I want to make all the decisions) but I think that's what Tandler was trying to say with the two posts.

Redskins’ contracts this offseason total $127.9 million | Rich Tandler's Real Redskins (http://realredskins.com/2014/03/26/redskins-contracts-this-offseason-total-127-9-million/)

According to Tandler, the Redskins will go into the 2015 offseason with about 25 million in cap space. This is assuming that the Redskins will exercise the contract option on Kerrigan, among other things. Considering this is a contract year for Kerrigan, Hankerson, Helu, Polumbus, Compton, Forbath, and several other less-important players, 25 million is great. Certainly, Allen and Gruden will be able to resign any player they want to.

RGIII's contract will take a big chunk out of that

You think they'll extend him next offseason?

If RGIII has a dynamite year, then I would extend him next year for sure. It'd likely be the cheaper option.
