Bad value. Orakpo is on a 3-13 team. This not the time for a team in this position to overpay an decent rush LB, his pass coverage may have improved but it was terrible
Let another team sign him, it's time to move on from this experiment, he's an undersized rush end.
He was injured the season before the year he missed, and in that previous year his pectoral was partially torn for half the year and was largely ineffective.

I agree, paying Orakpo 1 million dollars per sack is crazy. He is inconsistent, and disappears to often to be considered a premier OLB. The Redskins have plenty of positions to fill, and could get 2 or 3 good free agents instead of giving a big contract to Orakpo.

Also, does anyone know the details of the D.Hall contract. I heard only 4 or 5 million of the contract was guaranteed

The skins only have 30 mil in cap space and have numerous needs, If orakpo can be had for 6-7 mil per, that'll allow them to fill some holes maybe but, LBs are usually the heart of special teams and it'll limit them in quality depth, the thing that they've been needing.
He's really not a good value at that number. Hopefully the skins will realize that he's not a top shelf LB and let him walk if he wants more than 7 mil,

He will not take 6-7 million a year, he is going to want around 10 million per year. While I dont think he is worth it he will get it, IMO we will franchise him and try to work out a contract. If that can't be done then he will play for the tag price, Haslett loves Rak just like Hall. So I see him back at close to what he wants.

I don't see how letting Orakpo go will help them fix their holes. All I see happening is the team creating another problem. Orakpo is a good OLB and the best pass rusher on the team. Is he Quinn or Mathis? No. But he is still a good football player that good teams wouldn't let go. I don't think he deserves a 60 million dollar deal, I believe the skins should franchise him. HOpefully they end up doing that.

If they franchise him that's 1/3 of the available cap room? He's not worth it!

franchise tag will cost about 11 million, that leaves 20-30 million(they can gain cap room by cutting OL/DL) for 4 OL 1 WR, 1 TE, 2 DL, 2 LBs, 1 CB , 1 S

7 free agents, and 5 good draft picks... which would be a first

Bruce Allen said that he wanted to add 20 new players to the team. That is a very large number of players to add in one offseason. If he indeed adds that many new players, more than half of them would probably be UFA's. That's going to require alot of cap space, which makes me wonder if signing Orakpo is a good idea for a team that finished 3-13 last season and is planning to make alot of personnel changes during the offseason.

I doubt that the Skins can or even want to sign Orakpo to a multi-year deal. So, to me, the only question for the Skins about Orakpo is "Can we improve the defense more by tagging Orakpo for $11M or by signing two mid-tier FA's to more favorable, longer-term contracts?".

The Skins need alot of help on defense but we have Jackson and Jenkins at OLB, so the cupboard isn't bare at that position. I'm starting to wonder if the Skins might just let Orakpo walk in favor of picking up two good players at other positions.

Either sign Orakpo or draft his repalcement. KI you got me confused. You want your back up QB to be top notch and then go cheap at linebacker. I would do the opposite. Go top notch at LB and go cheap at back up QB. if we release Orakpo we could trade Cousins and use the pick we get for him to move up to draft another Orakpo type player.

You over value Cousins and devalue Orakpo. IMO

We should sign Connor Shaw to a free agent contract to take Cousins place.
