KI Skins Fan 01-10-2014, 10:33 AM I HATE revisionist history! Haslett sucks and you all know it!
How many more times are you willing to endure Haslett letting Dallas off the hook on a key FOURTH down play by calling some stupid defense that causes us to lose the game? He's done that more than once, you know.
Trust your own eyes and remember the misery that he has put us through.
GTripp0012 01-10-2014, 10:34 AM Yeah, which I and I think some others disagree on. Holding teams to FGs for example matters a lot to me. If you aren't talking yds/game *and* pts/game, you aren't accurately describing a D's ranking in the league, IMO.
The Chris Russel quote cherry picks a couple favorable stats on a below average D the last couple years. "Don't understand the hate" he says? Guess he thinks we should be happy with a bottom third defense. The Redskins were way worse on defense in the red zone this year than they had been at any point in the past eight. I don't really know why this was though. One of the things that the defense had been consistently good at no matter the coordinator or players was getting stops in short yardage. This year, they couldn't get off the field, and they were even worse in the red zone.
But the football outsiders ranking accounts for that struggle, so I don't know that the defense was necessarily worse.
HailGreen28 01-10-2014, 10:35 AM What do you get out of being so negative?I think I'm being realistic. Jon Gruden and Haslett's recent history isn't that good.
Negative would be suggesting getting Gruden and keeping Haslett is the best we could do, because nobody really good will work for Snyder. Like it's the Zorn situation all over again, we only made him HC after everybody really good turned us down.

No, negartive would be writing dumb-ass lyrics and posting them here so others can wallow in negativity with you. I prefer to look at the hiring of a new HC as a time for optimism.
I hate to pick on your post. There are plenty of other people who post here who need to elevate their sights, as well. Yours was just a negative post too far for me.
As for Haslett, I agree that he is a piss-poor DC and I want him gone, too. But he hasn't been announced as the DC yet, so let's see what happens. Even if he does become the DC, that doesn't necessarily doom us to losing.
I will now get off of your case.

What was dumb about the lyrics? That Gruden isn't a household name? That Gruden and Haslett don't really have a lot going for them based on their teams recent performances?
skinsguy 01-10-2014, 11:07 AM Everyone who's going to find something wrong about this franchise, whether if it is warranted or not, will color themselves as realists. It's not the first time we're hearing this kind of stuff - from the words of Bon Jovi, "It's all the same, only the names will change...".
People's opinions are easily swayed by the likes of the Washington Post, and they'll always assume the worst because they think anything Mike Wise, Jason Reid, or Sally Jenkins writes is pure gospel. Anybody who tries to challenge them with a brighter outlook is going to be pegged as fans who won't take of the rose-colored glasses.
Right now, there's absolutely no reason to bitch and complain about this hire, or the fact that Jim Haslett is still on the coaching staff. Jay Gruden is yet to even get started yet. Why is it too much to ask to wait and see what he does in assembling a complete staff?
And in terms of the hire itself, the franchise was looking for a candidate that best fits the team. I think Jay has the potential to be the right guy for the job. Time will tell and I'm not going sit here and cheer that this is a great hire nor am I going to sit here and sulk that he's the wrong guy. None of us really truly know until this guy gets in there and starts putting things together. But, I will say this - this is NOT another Jim Zorn hire. Gruden has experience as a head coach - albeit not yet in the NFL. He's been a leader of men. And after watching the presser yesterday, I don't get any type of timid "Zorn Like" qualities where it would make me think the guy would lose a locker room. He's a young coach who looks like he has that "fire in the belly" and wanting to achieve great things as a head coach.
In the end, we'll see. Let's just be glad that this team has found a head coach who's not 100 years old and not power hungry. I think we have a good guy, I'm excited to see what he does.

I might have enjoyed the lyrics at some other time. Right now, I just wish that we could all enjoy Redskins football again. Personally, I refuse to let losing get me down.
I was lucky because I was a Redskins fan when George Allen and Joe Gibbs (Version I) coached here. Back then, we knew we could beat anybody and we believed that we were never out of a game. It was a great time!
I want every Redskins fan to enjoy the Redskins the way we did back then. In a way, I must believe that Jay Gruden could be the same type of fortunate hire that Joe Gibbs turned out to be. I believe that one man, the right Head Coach, can make the difference between winning and losing. If Jay Gruden is the right man, I believe we can be good again for a decade or more.
SkinsGuru 01-10-2014, 11:29 AM What the hell?
NFL Stats: by Team Category (http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorystats?tabSeq=2&season=2013&seasonType=REG&role=OPP&d-447263-n=1&d-447263-o=1&d-447263-p=1&conference=ALL&defensiveStatisticCategory=GAME_STATS&d-447263-s=TOTAL_POINTS_GAME_AVG)
Haslett's D was tied for next to worst (#30) in giving up points in 2013. #18 ranked D in giving up yards.
For 2012, Haslett's D was tied for being ranked #20 in points given up. #28 ranked D in giving up yards.
For 2011, Haslett's D was ranked #21 in points given up. #13 ranked D in yards.
So Haslett's D was mediocre in 2011, and bad in 2012 and 2013. Sure, let's keep him on our staff! I don't understand the hate either! lol.
Is Chris Russel trolling, or what? Reminds me how how numbers are spun in politics: There's lies, damned lies, and statistics!
lets not forget that the offense, while moving the ball well, had a ton of turnovers . . . that is going to lead to the defense giving up more points too . . . so while the 18th ranking for yards is not a good measurement by itself . . . either is the points allowed as that is skewed by the offensive turnovers and the special teams blunders too . . . so i would say more in the middle like a 24 to 25 ranking . . . not good no matter how you look at it

Couldn't agree more, they should go after Horton.
