Dirtbag59 04-19-2014, 01:35 AM Why do we rarely talk about Compton taking over at RT? I did see an article a couple of months ago that at least offered a refresher on Compton but in terms of press among fans theres not much go on, especially considering that hes a 6th round pick. If I find it I'll post it later. In the meantime heres a small report (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/football-insider/wp/2013/08/07/redskins-expand-tom-comptons-duties-on-offensive-line/) from camp last year. From a fans point of view though they see no coaches, beat reporters, or even bloggers touting him (which given his lack of game film is understandable). Most of his press seems to be simply listing him as an option next to LeRibeus and Gettis but not much beyond that: Washington Redskins begin offseason workout program Monday - The Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/redskins/washington-redskins-begin-offseason-workout-program-monday/2014/04/06/cb8934ea-bd84-11e3-9ee7-02c1e10a03f0_story.html) Redskins used three draft picks in 2012 to select guards Josh LeRibeus (third round), Adam Gettis (fifth) and tackle Tom Compton (sixth). But none of those three have logged more than a few snaps in the last two seasons combined Skins' Allen feels 'OK' about free agency, still sees holes - The Frederick News-Post : Sports (http://www.fredericknewspost.com/sports/skins-allen-feels-ok-about-free-agency-still-sees-holes/article_9f60b0fb-a5ad-52b4-8e01-3b9d2d3e7937.html) The Redskins do have three young prospects — 2012 draft picks Josh LeRibeus (guard, third-rounder), Adam Gettis (guard, fifth-rounder) and Tom Compton (tackle, sixth-rounder) — who remain on the roster, but have rarely played. Bruce Allen Off To Good Start As Washington Redskins Decider « CBS DC (http://washington.cbslocal.com/2014/03/18/allen-off-to-good-start-as-the-decider/) Young backups Josh LeRibeus, Tom Compton, Adam Gettis and Mo Hurt should realize that this offseason is their time to make a move for a starting spot since every job other than that of Pro Bowl left tackle Trent Williams should be up for grabs Re-examining Washington Redskins' needs: offensive line - ESPN (http://espn.go.com/blog/washington-redskins/post/_/id/7025/re-examining-redskins-needs-offensive-line) Is Tom Compton in the mix? I think we’ll find out more after the draft, based on what the Redskins do – or don’t do. I think you guys get the point but for the record there are at least two more of these type of quotes I could have added here :D On top of that fans at least see right now that the team seems to seriously consider selecting a RT early in the upcoming draft not to mention a couple of feelers on free agents, most notably Donald Penn who obviously ended up signing with Oakland. I guess as a fan base all we really know of him is this; based on draft day reports we know he's strong as an ox and at the very least he's been deemed good enough to keep in the mix, making the final roster last year after being kept on the practice squad for the majority of his rookie season. Bottom line in regards to most 6th round picks, a lack of information is deemed a bad sign among fans. Weather or not thats actually the case remains to be seen. Update: This appears to be the article I saw earlier in the offseason but it appears to just basically be slightly longer version of the "The Ballard of [the Unproven] Tom Compton." Now avaialable on I-Tunes Redskins draft rewind: OT Tom Compton | Comcast SportsNet Washington (http://www.csnwashington.com/football-washington-redskins/talk/redskins-draft-rewind-ot-tom-compton) Side Note: I think that I just set the 2014 offseason record for mentions of Tom Compton in a single post, comment, or article. Beating out even the Compton 2014 Happy New Year Family Newsletter "Tom is doing great staying on the roster of that Maroon and Gold football team, and will probably compete with his teammates next year to stay on the team so he can collect an oversized welfare check while the rest of the family actually works for a living in the oil fields of South Dakota. Go Tom we're rooting for you, you lazy bastard." Chico23231 04-19-2014, 10:03 AM I think my preference would be to trade back a couple spots with a team looking to move up for a QB. MTK 04-19-2014, 11:05 AM Maybe, but we have made minimal attempts to upgrade that specific position, and Gruden in an interview particularly blamed his RT in arena football as causing a broken leg or arm. I'm not saying that proves anything, but it certainly would seem he understands the importance of a solid line. Also Gruden's RT at Cinci was a former 1st round pick. So I can't see him being content with Polumbus They're obviously looking to upgrade if possible. I just don't think they see it as a dire need like the fans do. artmonkforhallofamein07 04-19-2014, 11:23 AM I would like to be a millioaire if i could make 950,000 dollars more a year. That's pretty much my thought on him skinsfaninok 04-19-2014, 02:33 PM my 3 choices 1. DEMARCUS LAWRENCE, DE, BOISE ST. 2. JASON VERRETT, CB, T.C.U. 3. CYRUS KOUANDJIO, OT, ALABAMA Thoughts? Irrefutable 04-19-2014, 03:06 PM my 3 choices 1. DEMARCUS LAWRENCE, DE, BOISE ST. 2. JASON VERRETT, CB, T.C.U. 3. CYRUS KOUANDJIO, OT, ALABAMA Thoughts? Lawerence is small for a DE, and slow for an OLB Verrett could be a good one, but probably would not play much next year...lets see what Crawford, and Minnifield can do before drafting a CB high Kouandjio is slow, and has health issues FWIW.... Morgan Moses has been invited to attend the draft, does this mean he could go in the first round ? skinsfaninok 04-19-2014, 03:15 PM I like Crawford but eventually we'll need another corner anyway. Good insights though EARTHQUAKE2689 04-19-2014, 04:24 PM I like Crawford but eventually we'll need another corner anyway. Good insights though To me Minnifield is just a body at this point. Crawford I like a lot, but we do need another CB. |
